Question which muffler is best?

Hello everyone, new guy here. Just wanted to get some advice as to which muffler to get for my 01, Screw 5.4. I am looking for that aftermarket sound, but I also want to maintain or improve the torque/performance as I am a regular toy hauler. I was looking at full exhaust systems but they are a bit expensive. the muffler is all I can do right now. My Screw is 100% stock and I would like as little noise inside the cab as possible. Thanks for the help.

i have a 4.6 02s-cab... $350 for a cat back from flowmaster force II setup with a 50 series muffler, theres almost no resonance in the cab, but it is nice a throaty outside, just enough to get you noticed.

I am on my third set of flowmasters. My 97 Tahoe had 100k, and NO issues. My 00 F150 had 170k, with NO problems. I put them on my 07 KR Screw before it even had 100mi on it. I really believe in them. I am sure other mufflers are great too, just wanted to share how good Flowmasters have been to me. They all were put on by the same shop. No pieceing them together. They took straight pipes, bent them to fit, and everything was welded.

Not bashing or trying to make you look dumb. Do you have proof? I am curious as to what makes it better.

I had the same concerns regarding sound level. I had a Magnaflow 5"X8" X24" with 3" in and 3"out SI/SO oval installed yesterday. The shop ran 3" back from the cats to behind the rear tire where the factory exhaust was.
Going home yesterday I was in bumper to bumper traffic and could hear exhaust under acceleration. Coming in to work this morning I was amazed how quiet it was at 70-75.

System has a great deep throaty sound and I am very happy. Regarding performance I would say maybe a little more pick up. I have less than 2k miles on my truck so I don't have a lot of seat tim to compare. I haven't really been flogging it yet.

Hope it helps.

BTW I have a 07 Screw shortbed with a 5.4.

Thanks for the advise, and that link Kevin. After doing some further research I have decided to go with MAGNAFLOW since it does help with performance.

I got rid of my Slow master 50 series. Flowmaster mufflers actually reduce torque over stock applications- that's been dyno proven here and on other sites...I proved it for myself. I replaced with a Magnaflow 22x4 straight thru muffler and gained 13 seconds in 0-80 acceleration tests which I have posted in the past.
Flowmasters don't sound bad - they just gobble up to much torque and there's that annoying drone @ cruising speeds..

Here's a few magy sound clips I made.. -

Here's one @ idle right after install. - Fresh reboot , so it's a little loopy -

well, from my quest of trying to find the right muffler, I have gone through borla, flowmaster, cherry bomb, went through various lengths of glasspacks, and I have finally settled with Magnaflow. I am ordering the 16612 muffler and puttng on 2 4"x18" tips and running it straight out the back. There is little to no drone, a nice aggresive sound when u want it, and it dosent take away from the bottom end. Just my .02
