Exhaust Advice

Hey guys, I'm looking for a little advice. I would like to install a new muffler, I realize most of you probably think I should do an entire exhaust of some sort, however I'm not looking for something loud. I would just like my 2004 4.6L to sound a little more aggressive, without being annoying to those who don't appreciate loud exhaust (primarily my wife). I've had good results in the past just by upgrading from a stock muffler on other vehicles I've owned (Flowmaster on a Jeep CJ5 and Magnaflow on a Mustang). My instincts are to put one of those on my truck to replace the factory muffler. What's your advice? Thanks in advance!

Neal

I really just want something that sounds more agressive. I want it to sound deeper than my wife's Mountaineer with the 5.0. I'm the man, I need the more aggressive vehicle.

I did that earlier this year. I was not at all impressed with the Super 40 sound. Dont get me wrong it sounds good but I want louder. Muffler shop cut out factory muffler welded the Flowmaster in with a piece of extension pipe to make up the difference in length and I had them add a 3.5" Stainless tip to the factory pipe. Less than $200 with the tip.

I agree.....just get a 14" single in single out offset muffler and a nice 3" angle cut tip and have a good shop cut and weld in the new parts.....

I did it.....sounds great........no drone, nice throaty tone.

What's a ballpark on that 14" Magnaflow installed for price? Just had someone quote me on a Flowmaster 40 series single in dual out $425 plus tax. I KNOW that's a ripoff.

Getting her done in 30 min!! Found a shop in town on Magnaflow's website, they're going to put on a 14" single in/out offset $129 plus tax! I'm excited! Will certainly post the results!
