Factory intake mod!

I was just wondering if anyone has ever taken the intake tube of the factory air box and drove their truck to see if any performance gains were noticeable? I done this to my truck today just to see how much of a difference it would make. I have to tell you I was quite amazed. The throttle response improved and acceleration is a whole lot better! I know that with this setup you have an increase risk of getting moisture inside the motor and it will also be sucking in a lot more hot air. I just can't wait to get a cold air intake i'm still amazed at how much performance I gained. I got 90MPH in our little marked off quarter mile in the country! The only other mod I have are true dualed straight exhaust with 2-1/4in pipe and 3.5 x 22in tips. I did have my exhaust y-ed off before the axle but I wanted my exhaust a little bit louder so I had it true dualed and I also noticed more power with the true duals over y pipe.

U could

you could just mod your factory intake tube for now that is what i have done. you can see my mod job in the pics i have. it would be much better than running it factory and safer than with no intake inlet tube on.

Can you afford $211? K&N wanted thier CAI for the 4.2L for $350, I found this whole setup for only $211 (including shipping!) Only took 30 mins to install too and is worth the engine dress-up!

2004 Heritage : http://fasterthanthem.com/product.ph...4&cat=0&page=4

Or if you want to try and search one for cheaper look for "77-2550KP" in google. Happy shopping! If you get it, shoot me and e-mail and I can give you a few tips on the install!

did you notice anything other than noise from not having the air silencers on there? i'll get a real CAI in the future, but this could be something quick and dirty to try for the time being. still using the tape to block the holes, or did you figure something else out?

Talking can not

I really do not miss the air silencers i can not hear any real difference. Better performance and throttle response that is for sure. Still using the tape i have way to many projects as of late. like my kids little jeep, plus the holidays and i had my wifes b-day before x-mas and my oldest sons b-day a few days after x-mas so....yeah still using the tape but i have a plan to cut some of the spare plastic i took off and patch the holes but i am going to try to shape them first. i was told by a friend of mine that you can shape it by just putting the plastic in some boiling water. i will see what happens.

cool, i'll have to try it out for sure then. maybe some rubber plugs to fill the holes and a little JB weld around the edges to seal them up?

oh yeah, out of curiosity, are you running the stock air filter or k&n?
