Lightning long tubes on 4x4

Looking to upgrade to a long tube setup and was wondering what to get. I already have a true dual setup wth shorties and was wondering if lightning long tube headers would work and be easier to install with my true duals. I think the lightning longtubes would end with two pipes instead of the Y that would come with correct kit for my truck. The lighnings have true dual if I am correct and that should line up alot better in my mind anyways. I am looking for a set with the mid pipe that I could connect to my existing duals. What would be the best kit for my setup. Was wondering about cats also. Should I get rid of all 4 of them and run mils or find a kit with the high flow cats installed.

I just bought the headers and cats. We fabbed our own mid pipes to fit.

I also bought headers that were for a lightning, later found out all 97-03 f150 2wd/4wd headers are the same.

not trying to beat a dead horse here, but i also have the lightning dynatech longtubes on my 03 5.4 4x4. i also had a previously installed true dual setup w/ high flow cats... i wound up having to cut them off, install the headers, and move them farther back. it was a real pain in the ***... anyway, just make sure you get o2 extension cables for the front two sensors.

I think he's asking about clearance issues with the lightning style mids hitting the tranny pan. Isn't there a problem with the clearance there? I can't answer, I have the lightning ones but mine is 2x2. Thought the deeper tranny pan hit the lightning style? NOt sure just asking, may not be the case.

So would it be easier to just by the dynatech longtubes with the high flow cats and mid pipe that has the Y made for the regular f150. Then cut the Y off and weld in my X pipe and the rest. Do the lightning mid pipes have to be totally redone or maybe just some massaging into place? The lightnings seem like they would line up better than the non lightning but if it is alot more hassel I will get just get the regular ones and mod those.

Thanks for the responses. The mid pipes are what I was worried about. I have heard so many different things about if they will fit or not.

So let me get this straight. I can install lightning long tube headers on my 98 F-150 4x4. Remember I have non PI heads. I have been looking for a set for my truck and the ones that I find are for 99-03 models only thats way I have been hesitant to buy a set.

Please Confirm

Thanks

long tubes and a 4.6

Ok ... So will the long tubes fit a 4.6l 4x4. I really want to add the headers. I have a 98 F150 with cat back exhaust but it has the x-over tube. Fabbing new pipe is not an issue just want to know if they will fit a 4.6l

Looks like I will just use the regular 150 dynatech longtubes and cut the Y off. Seems it may be easier to mod the ends of the regular 150 mid pipes and connect to my system than have to fab one complete mid pipe.

If you get the mids for duals. You wont have to cut the Y pipe. Probably just add a piece of straight pipe on each side to make it long enough to get the cross over pipe past the tranny.
