As to losing low end torque...believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.

I have the 3 chamber Flowmaster and it has a nice rumble when you get on it. I dont know what model will get you what you are looking for but I am sure Flowmaster can get you the sound you want. All the negative posts will be from those with the Magnaflow mufflers. There is a post on here that shows the difference in various types of mufflers and the difference in the two is negligible in the lower rpm range and not that big in the upper rpms.

I have a 50 series on my '01 5.4 and I can spin the tires from a stand still with ease ( and I have 3.55 LS gears on 40 series 20 inch tires)
my wife loves the sound of the flowmsater and it's been on almost 3 years without any issues
there's a bunch of F-150's on youtube with sounds clips and videos

I have had a Flowmaster SI/SO since 09/2001. It was originally installed on my '86 Ford Bronco, but was then refurbished and put on my Expedition. Outside of repainting and re-welding the outlet pipes it's been great. My Exp. had been Supercharged and still worked great with respect to power. I was looking for throttle response from the Exp since a louder muffler created too much drone noise in a vehicle of that type.

I don't know maybe its a Redneck thing, but the only way Flows sound worth a damn is dumped. Also they only make 2 mufflers that I like the sound of, 1 original Flow 40, 2 the 10 series race muffler, with the second sounding much better than the first. Personally there are only 2 exhaust I will run on a truck one is true duals x-pipe with dynomax race bullets through 3.5" tips, the other is true duals x-pipe straights through 3.5" tips. These are the best 2 sounding exhaust I have heard on the 5.4.
