The more open your exhaust is, the higher your motor spins and the more HP you make. The smaller the exhaust is, all you do is bring the torque down in the rpms more.
HP and torque are directly related you can't increase HP without increasing torque

HP=(Torque*RPM)/5252 or Torque=(HP*5252)/RPM
