dumped exhaust heat up axle?
I am deciding how to dump my exhaust. Right now I just have the connector pipe coming out or my y-pipe. I heard a couple times, and it makes common sense to me, that if the exhaust should be ran over the axle or else it will "cook" the fluid in the rear axle and differential. Also running the pipe over the axle should reduce the cab drone a bit.
I think I am going to have the shop run my pipe over the axle with a turn down. But I want to see if the can make the turndown with a larger tip in an attempt to create a lower tone.
Any thoughts? Thanks

mine is right in front of the axle. I had the side axle housing leak, but not a big deal to repair that. Ive run this set up for over two years, only starting to drone now that the muffler is worn out.
I would only worry about cooking the axle if you do alot of heavy towing/payload etc.
Plus you are lifted some so that gets the exhaust higher up then the axle.

there is no way your exhaust will heat the diff unless its pointed right at it an inch away and usually ppl put on a turn down so it points more towards the ground. if your exhaust got that hot everybody with a lightning would be melting there RR tire and side skirts. have you ever crawled under your truck and felt the diff after a long drive on the highway? she gets pretty hot on er own.
