whats the deal with muffler shops?

I went to one place wanting to know how much it would be to replace my 4 cats with the 2 maggies (that I had already bought), and the guys tells me that the labor alone would be at least $600.

so I called another shop 10 miles away, and the guy says $80. called again yesterday, and this time he says $60.

its rediculous.

They charged me $80, and from what he told me there's more to it then chopping off and welding because the torsion bars and cross members are in the way so they have to work around or remove the cross member. I left my truck for 5 hours allowing time to cool and install. Also I'm having issues since i did this https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=326690 You might want to check this out before you put them on.
