Want performance, not loud exhaust. Any suggestions...

My last truck had a medium volume exhaust and I really like the sound, or lack there of, that my stock 2005 5.4 3v has. But I understand that an aftermarket exhaust can get some good HP. Plus I'm looking at getting a Troyer tune with an AF1 3.0". It would be a shame to do these mods and have a stock exhaust that is holding the other mods back.

Is there something I can do to the stock exhaust to make it better, like maybe upgrading the tubing to 3". Or is the muffler still a bottle neck.

I guess I'm open to aftermarket exhaust. But I don't want much louder then stock. Any aftermarkets out there that are quiet like stock?

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Get a 22" Magnaflow, it will have a better tone and give some performance, without being much louder than stock.

So this 22" is not the same muffler that comes with Magnaflows 16612 kit that is made for my truck?

Also what about the stock tubing. I think its only 2.5". Wouldn't getting 3" from the muffler shop also help?

IDK about the kit, but the 22" is the quietest maggie, don't go to 3" tubing unless you want to loose some torque. 2.5" will support up to 400 hp.

Do you think Troyer will be able to make his tunes based on the 22". His stage kits usually include a full Mag kit, not a 22".

By the way, what is the average length in the Mag kits for the muffler? 22" sounds pretty big. Probably why it's quieter too I guess.

If troyer is as good as everyone claims he will have no problem, he has to write tunes for every imaginal intake, exhaust, etc, etc, etc. So a 22" maggie is a cake walk, but look around on youtube, that would be the best place to find a sound you like.

The 22" has a 28" total length.

You read my mind. I was just about to ask that question. Magnaflow shows a 5" x 11" oval model that is 22" body and 28" in total length. I even see bigger ones. I guess a quick e-mail to them would be best.

I would go with the 5"x11", and go to performancepeddler.com for the best deal on the magnaflows anywhere.
