Question Magnaflow kit Question?

Ok I'm looking to purchase a Magnaflow SIDO rear exit cat-back system for my 2008 F-150 FX4 SuperCrew. Question is, what's the difference in bolt on kits? A friend of mine is telling me bolt on kits aren't any good and etc. but I don't see what the difference is or could be? I'm looking into this kit. http://4wheelonline.com/Products.asp...oductId=100446

This is the same kit as what's avaiable on Troyer's website and can be purchased in one of his performance packages so I figure it would be my best bet. If this setup isn't any good please explain why. Thanks in advance.

Catbacks are a waste IMO, buy a muffler, and the tips you want and have a shop fab it up.

The reason some of the kits are not good is due to the fit? Sometimes you have to do some work to get it right. I had my Magnaflow exhaust system custom bent to insure a perfect fit. It may cost a little more, but I did not have to worry about the pipes hitting the spare tire.

I am looking at the same exact kit. Glad you asked this question. I have had both types. The answer I got from Magnaflow is that their kits are broke up in smaller pieces to aide in shipping. You could clamp it up and then go have it welded too. Just a thought.

Question Body Size?

Ok, I've somehwhat decided on joshmac's suggestion to buy a muffler and have a shop fab the pipes. Question is, with the Magnaflow SIDO muffler, what do the different body sizes contribute to? How about the inlet/outlet sizes as well? I'm assuming an 18" body would be quieter and a 14" body would be louder? Similarly from the inlet/outlet sizes, larger pipe diameter = louder?

I've more or less settled on this Magnaflow SIDO muffler with 3"inlet and 2.5" outlet. any comments?

Larger pipe diameter = less torque. You want 2.5" AT THE MAX. The 14" is the loudest 18", 22" are progressively quieter. With the SI/DO, the 3 in 2.5 out will work, I don't think they make a 2.5 in and out. But I would suggest goin with a true dual setup, and running a x pipe as well. If you can afford it, it will be the best system. I have the 14" and my vid is below, and there is another one in my thread if you want to hear it.

Not a kit I ordered the mufflers and x from performancepeddler.com(guarentee best deal on magnaflow) and custom fabbed the pipes and got the tips. The part #'s are 10791 for the x and 10416 for the resonators.

The only trouble with shop bent pipes is that they are not mandrel bent, with much more turbulent flow. They really pinch down on the bends. Not many bends if you don't go over the axle, though. Just getting rid of the factory Y-pipe is the most important thing.

If it were a turbo where exhaust flow is very important then mandrel is the only way, but on a stock displacement vehicle, crush bent is fine. You shouldn't see any gains with mandrel over crush bent, unless it is a horrible job.
