Why is every shop giving me a hard time?

There will be no performance issues with pre-cats and hi-flow converters. Like I said before the only difference is you may feel a slight tad better performance under load.
The ditching of the rear cats will raise your economy 0.2mpg, mine did.
Good/bad, nothing will be bad, it will sound and perform better, good would be if you can have all 4 deleted with two re-installed, or if needed be, keep the pre-cats and hi-flows to pass if there is any inspection/emission issues.

Yeah, my area prohibits LTs, and if it came with 4 cats, it leaves with 4. Down state where the emissions are they get strict on the mufflers, the volume and quantity.

ok so im pretty angry right now. went to a custom exhaust shop again. they get 130 per Maggy cat so that and install would be like close to 700. then he said if i bring my own in (90 a piece from troyer) he would install for $400. wtf, why so expensive??? im goin to try a midas next. is this THAT hard of a task for a shop to do? i mean really. im getting mad now

High Flow Install
You shouldn't have to pay more than $250 for installation. I had mine done for $150 (supplied my own Maggies). My shop cut off all 4 and welded new pipe to the exhaust manifold, then welded in the new high flows. My truck has not thrown a CEL and I have been driving it for over a year now.
Your best bet is to find a mom and pop shop to do the work. The national chains don't want to risk being fined for replacing functional cats with high flows.
Edit: BTW: Get your old cats back!!! I sold mine for scrap and got $250 for them! Platinum is through the roof right now!

no if you leave the pre cats on you wont have the same affect as takin all 4 out, you wont have the raspy no cat sound, and you will keep your performance up, i would take the pres off and leave the rears on other than leavin pres on and cuttin rears off, thats what i did at first and it had a beautiful sound

shop hassle
Exhaust shops are nuts for the little they do they charge a lot ,you did not mention if they were also adding any stainless piping its way way expensive and that could account for some of the high price. Small shop would be the best in your case Emissions is a B**ch if they get caught removing a fully functional cat converter the fines are nuts it's not cheap because not every shop will do it ...The e-test popo around here also does on road enforcement they can and will fine us if all factory emissions components are not installed so ya gotta be creative
However if you don't have e-testing take the route I did
changed it all in about 2 days including most fab work Long tubes,2 high flows,3" from collectors back,C.E.L eliminators and super 44's you can't beat the sound or the performance gain oh yeah and it also passed the sniffer testing in my area !!!!!

Your shops aren't wanting to take the risk of modifying OEM equipment. Just keep searching for regular small body shops and some tire shops that will do the work.
you MUST! get a video of that exhaust!! please!
