Looking back, probably not the safest way to do it but it worked for me.

Well, I finally worked up the courage to pull the bolt... The key was to jack up the frame enough to take the weight of the vehicle off of the leaf springs, but still keep the wheel on the ground so that the weight of the axle was also not supported by the leafpack. Because I was jacking up one side at a time, there was a small amount of torsion on the leafs and that resulted in the bolt being a little harder to pull, but it did eventually come out.
Oh, and the exhaust sounds great, I can't wait for it to 'break in' with more use.
