Now I'm pretty dumb when it comes to the mechanics and such with these trucks so forgive the stupid question but if I were to get that exhuast and those stage 2 cams on my truck, would it sound anything like that video?

Secondly, what the hell are cams?

Told you I didn't know much about these things

Possibly. Cams are in the engine, performance related but may change exhaust note. Could sound the same but remember that Lightning 5.4L is way more beefed up than the basic 5.4L so it wont be exact, but similar.

I just like how it doesn't sound like all the others. I know the Lightning has a way better setup under the hood but it just sounds really really nice.

Probably not worth the money in getting that type of setup though.

I'm kind of surprised, all the youtube videos I've heard with the Bassani exhaust didn't sound all that great in my mind. I think it's a great company though, I have their pipes on my bike.

This is the exhaust system I found on the Lightning section as well as a recent mag. I want it but am told it won't fit my truck, headers will, and maybe the cat back but no crossover? I'm kinda fielding my options here, if it will work with minor mods then so be it. I have basically a 4x4 Lightning with 5.4. Another thing, it's a big system, 3" tru dual basically, too big for a n/a truck you think? I want to supercharge and get some engine work done, but who knows when.

I think it was you BUILT54 that told me to get the Dynatech headers but from a Lightning because the crossover gives way for true duals, not sure if that was the case or what you said will make it fit.

dont get the mid pipes for a lightning because its not designed to go under the transfer case, I had to modify mine. The headers are the same, just not the midpipes

Cams are driven by a chain behind the timing cover. You dont see the chain because its behind an aluminum cover and all the accessorys sit on this cover. The cams are under the valve covers which sit a top each cylinder head. All cam shafts do are open and close the valves to let air in and exhaust out. Our trucks are SOHC (Single over head cam) which means each cylinder head has 1 cam in it. Mustang Cobras for example are DOHC (dual over head cam) and have 2 cams per head. SOHC heads use 1 cam to open both intake and exhaust valves while a DOHC uses 1 to open the intake valve and one to open the exhaust valve. Alot of GM cars are Pushrod engines, which means there is a single cam in the engine block just above the crank shaft, which then uses long pushrods that go through the cylinder head to push a rocker arm which open the valve.

Sorry if thats confusing I dont always make my point clear. Also thats not all there is to it, but that is the basics.

Timing Cover:

Timing cover removed exposing the 2 chains which rotate the cam shafts(top) and are driven from the crank shaft (bottom):

Actually that was really informative. It makes a little more sense now when I hear people talk about them.

Thanks for all the info.
