Angry muffler deleted=still quiet

I cut my stock muffler off of my 04 and it is still quiet. You can hear it when excelerating but barely hear it while cruising. I plan on getting the roush off road later.

My question is since it is so quiet after taking off the muffler how is it going to get as loud as the vids that I have watched before of other trucks with the roush exhaust? It sounds retarded but doesn't adding a muffler, like in the roush, going to make my truck quieter than now? Those trucks sound louder than mine with a cat back on than mine with a straight pipe.

The early 05's have 4 cats too. If it's still not loud enough cut off the tubing before the axle and run it dumped, or replace the remaining cats with hi-flows and you'll be set. I've got a cutout on mine and 2 cats since it's an 06 and it's loud but nothing to extreme. I really love the gargled sound I get out of it though.

Did you connect it to your OEM tailpipe? Might be one reason why. Have you tried it with the windows down?

The engine isn't used to that immediate free-flow so after a few start ups it should get better.

'04 - '05s had 4 cats, '05.5 - present have two large cats. Anything built in 2005 came with two. Any '05s built in '04 continued the 4 cat system until the following build year.

Uh, yah, for about 6 mon. It's still the same now as it was when the exhuast shop put in the pipe and drove it out of the shop. It is connected into oem piping, all I did was replace the muffler with a straight pipe.

Everyone told me that I wouldn/t have to remove the rear cats becaust the o/r would be plenty loud enough, thats why I was wondering because it isn't horribly loud for a straight pipe. Shoot, my brothers 08 with stock exhaust when at start up is just alittle quieter than mine. I know he only haves 2 bigger cats and a muffler compared to my 4 smaller cats and no muffler though.

hmm well maybe you're expecting a much louder & raspier sound. Is this your first Ford? Fords factory cats do resonate and restrict alot of sound. Removing my rear cats was probably one of my best exhaust decisions. The pre-cats flow perfect and open as hi-flows do, and my Magnaflows are not quiet exept at idle, which of coarse any straight through exhaust is.

nope, not new to the fords. this is my 4th,and my whole family is diehard ford. So, I've been around them for a while. This is my first late body style f150 however.

I like my stuff loud but not true straits loud, that sounds redneck to me.

Oh ok. So I suppose you are aware that Ford trucks have the quietest exhausts. Part of that problem is not just the factory 32" restrictive muffler, but the cats are too, especially the 4 cat NBS systems. They have to be the quietest F150s ever manufactured.. 11" long pre-cats, and 12" restrictive rear cats, in a 2.5" exhaust with a 32" muffler.

Since you do not have inspection, I would suggest you pull your rear cats out if you have $20 some bucks to spare for a couple pipes and clamps from autozone, and tackle the project on a free day, that is if it is going to be quite awhile until you get the Roush off-road kit. Because those rear cats are mainly whats killing all the fun, and flow for the engine.

yah, i have seen your videos a few times darren, nice commetary too, it sounds way better without the rears. I like yours since it doesn't crackle and pop when idling down, just nice deep and throaty.

lol, ok that just sounded wrong.

Well thank you, I like my set up too. The Roush Off-Road is very similar to mine, mines just a little louder and aggressive sounding, though performance isn't as great as the Roush system is. Either way, ditch the rears and have a few beers.
