Rear exit vs. side exit

well this is my first post on here. I have a 4.6l v8 in a 03 supercrew and i am going to get my exhaust tomorrow. i am going with a flowmaster 40 series Si/Do and i was wondering if i went out the side in front of the passanger rear tire if it would be quieter or louder than strait out the back in the cab and outside of the truck. Thank you

I would think that it would be louder since the pipes are shorter. I think I might go with that setup as well.

I saw someone on another forum run the pipes just like the lightning trucks with the same muffler. He said the drone was too loud and ran the pipes all the way out to the back.

With a 40 series, the Lightning style exit in front of the rear pass tire would be a little on the loud side. Probably a good choice that you went out back with the longer tailpipes with that muffler.

I did my '97 that way though. Stock location for it except I used a 5x8x18 SI/DO Magnaflow. It sounds very nice...I can hear it in the cab but it's not loud enough to be annoying.
I prefer the front exit when possible for off-road use or even just on the boat ramp...Have never had to worry about dumping the pipes in the water that way.

I don't have pix of my setup yet. Still need the weather to warm up enough so I can weld the tips on. (My local shop didn't have the tips I wanted in stock plus I need to trim my one-piece running-board/flares a bit to fit the second tip).

Good job on putting tailpipes over axle on.
