Question Exhaust Piping Size OK?

OK here is the could be dillema. I drew up a quick sketch of my current system on the left, what I am hoping for on the right.

My truck is a 2006 Screw 5.4L 4x4. From changin the oil, I have noticed it seems to only have 2 cats compared to some guys claiming to have 4. This past August I replaced the stock oem muffler with a super 44. All else remained the same. I like it, but want a little louder now. My girlfriend just bought me a super 40 for christmas unknowing of what she got me.

My question is, can the Y joint be removed to make it a true dual system with 2.5" pipes, or do I need to change piping size to do this? Im pretty basic in my knowledge on this stuff. I will probably trade in the super 40 for a 44 to match my current super 44, even though there probably won't be much of a discernable difference.

So two questions:
1. Can the change be made as drawn below with 2.5" pipes?
2. Would it change your answer if I said I was thinking of adding magnaflow hiflow cats later on this spring possibly, but not for certain?

Exhaust system crude drawing.

And My beauty. 2.5" Leveling Kit, 35" Toyo ATs, Front Windows have since been tinted to match the back.

2.5 is just fine. You don't want to go bigger then that.
And yes,,you just cut the Y and run the duals. But it wont look like your pic. Both will run down the right side of the truck.

That will work, the mufflers will be side ways ( longitude ways ) instead of flat, and the pipes will be 8 - 12"s apart. You can run the stock cats, or add hi-flows later down the road no problem. And with the Super 44s that will sound good. Get offset inlet / centered outlet mufflers, actually I remember the part # for those, 942546.
