whats dual exhaust?

ok stupid question i know. but im asking because tommorrow im thinking of getting it on my truck. i already have a cat back flowmaster 40 master series on. but i want a dual exhaust setup. so i called a muffler shop and they said they would install and extra muffler and piping for a dual exhaust setup for about 300 dollars. what exactly would they need to do to make this happen. i just dont want to get screwed. i think this would involve an x pipe with 2 flowmaster mufflers. just wondering. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks fellas.

lol well, right after the cats the exhaust tubing joins at a "Y" and then into the cat-back system you have now. They would remove the y-pipe and now you have two separate pipes, or "true dual." They would pretty much replicate what you already have, and so you would have two separate pipes going all the way back to your tailpipes and they would angle those however you want

so you would have two mufflers, and an x-pipe would go where the original Y was so that your exhaust flows evenly between the two pipes

Do you have the single tail pipe right now? You can always go with a standard Single In/Dual Out configuration.

u could run hex exhaust on your inline 6
would make it super easy to diagnose a miss lol or a lean cylinder.
but that would be alot of pipe to run an would run like crap without some sort of exhaust flow equalization and scavenging
