Just did this to my truck a week ago. Noticed a slight throttle response and that's about it.

I have an AEM intake now and might stick the stock one back on and try this mod. It was on the truck when I just bought it but too noisy for me.

Removing the "baffles" as some call them really is not going to gain anything. They are actually called Helmholtz resonators, and in fact do a serve a purpose in the tuning of the stock intake. They are not just silencers as alot of people think.

Very simple mod. I haven't noticed any difference yet because I haven't really raced the engine. I did it because, to me, it just logically and mechanically makes sense (my neighbor is an aerodynamics engineer for Boeing and agrees) and it's too cheap to do ($10.00 and an hour of labor). I haven't noticed any whistling, but just before I glued it together, I rounded all the 90 degree corners in the path of incoming air with my Dremel tool and before I paint it, I'm going to smooth all the joints with some silicone. Even if I didn't know about the dyno testing results, I'd probably still do this.

i just got back from a 1700 mile trip as i was doing my after trip PCC/PCI's i noticed the entire rubber piece that fits in the fender, had been sucked backwards into the tube, and was no longer in the fender. the edge told me i was getting 8 degree above ambient temp in the intake so i dont know when this happened. luckily it was suggested and i did glue the rubber piece on but i think i am going with Jack and janets molde solid piece tomorrow. too much worry aboutthat rubber piece getting breathed in to my 5.4 to keep it on there.

Apparently some of the downspout connectors are more flexible than others. I have tried to push mine (I have 2 of them) inside and they won't stay that way, they pop back out. I am currently sourcing a rigid plastic PVC ring with a lip on it that will resolve this issue. Once I get it and test it I will publish the details. The solid PVC/ABS pipe ground down to fit is a good alternative.

I think you can eliminate the 4x3 downspout. I don't see why you cant uses a Pipe Hub Donut 3x3 part number 70389 at Lowes. I think it will go into the hole in the inner fender just fine and it is a tight fit on the 40 pvc. In fact, you do not need glue or a clamp.

Has anyone been able to find all the items they needed for this mod at Home Depot? The closest Lowes is 40 miles away and if I could save a trip it would be nice.

Back in post #82 I confirmed that both HD & Lowes carried the parts I used, "Uses a 2" test/knock out cap, a 1.5" test/knock out cap & a 1" plug."

If you actually read the whole thread the other posters covered who carries all the other variations. To save you the trouble however...

BOTH places are going to carry the sch 40 PVC plugs and/or caps if you want to go that route instead of the test caps. There is no need for sch 40 parts considering the construction of the rest of the intake though.

I will not be held liable if your HD/Lowes is currently out of stock of a required part.

Sorry to double post but this is actually a different aspect of the mod so I wanted to put it in a separate post.

I know it's somewhat taboo but you might want to check out what we've just started to discuss at another *ahem* forum. PHP
There's some debate as to whether or not the Helmholtz resonator chambers are just to tune out undesirable frequencies or if they're also there to assist with the combustion cycle. The science actually backs up the performance enhancer property, IN THEORY.

Short of "someone knowing someone" who actually knows something at Ford only a dyno test of the same engine between an intake with the resonator chamber and one w/o will tell the tale.

I left the resonator on when I did the mod, and my truck is really running great. Drove it about 350 miles today and it was a pleasure to drive.

txarsoncop hay i did dyno mine and found a 13 more on the horse well thats a improvement any way you slice it and sence i have put about 10000 miles and have checked it out not to long ago plugs are good and she is running great! so hope this helps
