Magnaflow 14148

Alright so I have flowmaster super 40 si/do exhaust set-up. Basically i like the sound for the most part but would like a little louder exhaust. Plus i've read some places the the slowmaster or flowmaster hurts your performance. I've always read that the maggie was the way to go for performance mufflers but i've never thought they were that loud. Well I found this muffler in the race/speciality section. its only a 5x8 muffler so i'd imagine that it has to be louder than my super 40. I guess my real question is has anybody ever heard this muffler or instaled this muffler on a 5.4? And ya i realize this muffler is a si/si muffler but i'd gey a y pipe as well and install that as well. I really wish i had a stick welder because i'd just swap it all out myself. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Magnaflow race series mufflers is pretty much a legal way to run straight pipe. I'd go with the 11" body to retain a good clear loud sound.

Do you know what it sounds like? I mean I know people have different tastes but i'm looking for a deep tone with a little cackle(not very much). Something a little louder than my flowmaster super 40. Just looking on some input on what it sounds like.

Do I know what the race series muffler sounds like? Not personally, but the videos I have need lead me to judge it sounds like a more toned straight pipe ( like SLP mufflers, and Borla XR-1s ) and they're so expensive at near $130 per muffler.

The 11" bodies I do know how they sound, and they sound amazing. I have true dualed 11"s on my truck ( listen to the videos below my signature image ). Very deep, real calm at a warm idle but pretty loud on a cold start, louder than 2 chamber Flowmasters ( maybe not the Super 44 ) during acceleration, straight pipe sound at WOT, and 100% direct flow. I'm very happy.

Ya i found a viideo on youtube of a guy with true dual series with the 11' muffler on and it sounded good. But the guy never had a video of a good take off. Sounded good on idle and everything but take off is where you can really tell if a muffler sounds good or not. See i have an 01' and the only way to get true duals is to redomy whole exhaust and cut the cats. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot in new pipes and what not. Just looking to swap mufflers and need be put a y pipe in since i have a si/do muffler now. And this race series is si/si out. And I rather like my exhaust. Plus the tips are still decent as i just put the flowmaster on last year. I'm just looking for some performance adders and a littlebit louder muffler. I'd like to put headers on but i didnt land a 40 hr a week summer job. So I'm stuck working at a restraunt that i've been at for 4 years making 7.75 and working about 20-25 hrs. So the cash flow aint there like it use to be. I use to work easily 60 hr weeks between 2 jobs for the last 2 summers but i got laid off at my other job in novemeber. But i have a cd getting ready to come up and i'd like to use some of that to replace the muffler and look into starting a retirement plan. BTW i'm 19 but i dont want to be a poor guy when its time to retire. I wanna live the vida loca!! haha

The 11" maggie sounds like it would be a nice choice... make sure you check out Darren's videos, he has just about every possible scenario for the exhaust

I am as soon as i get done typing this haha. Thing is he has true dual set-up so it'll be a little bit different sounding for me. I'm having a tough choice with either this 11'' maggie or just as y pipe. But i'm not a big fan of the no muffler just dumped exhuast and the only viable guess i have of what it would sound like is like a dumped exhuast just cleaner sounding.

Ya darren your first video was the one i saw on youtube. Sounds good but to me a camera doesnt justify how loud it really is in person. Can you honestly say its louder than a si/do stock cats 5.4 flowmaster super 44? Sounds pretty beefed up, the maggie does. Much deeper than my flowmaster.

Yes. My exhaust has any 2 chamber Flowmaster with stock cats beat. The only way Flowmaster is louder is at the idle, otherwise my revs have more growl and give a deeper cruising note.

I got an 01'. The guy at the exhaust told me straight up i can't do a true dual exhuast because i'm not authorized to cut the cats. Honestly every time i've been under my truck I havent paid too much attention to the exhaust. I know my exhaust but i haven't ya know looked into detail of it. Honestly i'd like to do my exhaust myself since i know i can make a bead good enough with a stick welder to not have any leaks or anything. I was a pretty decent mig welder until i stopped welding at my other job. But since i'm a kid, and in the field of welding experience means more i got booted. I could lay a better bead than 2 of the guys who welded full time in the shop. But anyway ya I'm going to price the two shops in town that do exhuast sometime soon. I had a true dual set-up on my old truck (already had it when i got it but 99% positive they were glass packs) and loved the sound. Also had a 351 windor so that helps!! ha

I'm running A magnaflow, and love it....but just to throw this in the mix, check out the Roush Off-Road clips on youtube.

Not sure about the price difference however.

For the Roush though, it is made for 04 (non heritage) and up...That kit would probably need some mods to make it fit.
