Question Which Magnaflow Muffler.....

I've been looking around and haven't been able to find the information I need on Magnaflow mufflers.....looking for something with a little more rumble in it at idle and a nice rumble when I get on it. My major concern is the drone in the cab, I have a 2 year old, not sure if it would bother her but I would like to not hear a drone inside the truck like I did with my Mustang when I still had it.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

I have the 14" si/do magnaflow and love it, but in your casew ith kids, I would reccomend the 18" magnaflow. It will have more rumble than stock but still be quiet enough to have kids. Personally, with my driving style the 14" is pleasant, no drone, but pretty loud outside. Here's an example, the other day I was cruising around 45-50 by myself on the highway. I NEVER do this but it won't hurt it once in a blue moon, I pushed the gas down and the truck downshifted and roared, louder than I ever could have thought. I have only done that once, and it will stay that one time only, but if you drive anything like me and don't do that with kids in the truck, the 14" could work. Magnaflow's tend not to drone. They are pleasant and deep. Keep in mind also, how you chose to have the system exit affects to interior resonance. Avoid anything infront of the tires or dumped set-ups under the truck. Keep it si/so out the side, or si/do out each side. You could always do straight out the back, but it doesn't look as good imo. Hope that helps some

I have the 18" and it has a nice sound. It's not much louder than stock and shouldn't bother your child.

18" it is....

Thanks for the info. The 18" sounds good. The si/do was kind of appealing to me because I like the way the exhaust looks on the new Super Duty trucks that have the dual look. I believe someone recommended in a different post, if you do si/so then you should go with 3" pipes, is that a correct assumption?

As far as location, I'd like to keep it as close to stock as possible.

I have the same issue as Fred06FX4..I have 2 young children under 5 and the drone in my cabin is way too much. I currently have si/do exhaust and i have no idea about the manufacturer, but i need a change. I like the Magnaflow, but is there a complete kit model number along with the 12288
part number Darren gave? Also, what price range for installation have you guys paid?

thanks!!

All of Magnaflow's exhaust kits for F150s come provided with 18" body mufflers, so any kit will do, it all just depends what style exit you wish to have.

Run a search of your truck's specs on their site and you will find a variety of kits. http://magnaflow.com/02product/shopdisplayproducts.asp

If your exhaust pipe is in good shape you might just want to consider a muffler swap? That would be your cheapest route. I'm not sure if dual exhaust is louder than single though? Darren could probably answer that better. If it is then maybe a 22" magnaflow swap might be right for you? I will say this also. I had a single 3" tip on mine at first. The drone was not bad at all but there was some at certian RPM's. I changed tips to a 3.5" and what drone there was went down considerably. Not sure why but tips must have something to do with it?

thanks for the advice....that would be great if i could just swap out the muffler. I was told at some point that i would have to replace the entire system if i wanted to just change the muffler. I'm guessing becuase i'm not that well versed in ehxaust knowledge they were pulling my leg.... the pipes seem like they are in good shape, but what do i know lol. I priced the 16520 system online and the cheapest i could find was $544.00...

I kept the stock pipes and swapped my muffler myself for about $80. If you don't have access to a welder I would think most any shop could do it for the price of just a hour or so worth of labor? I don't know what you have under your truck but there should be no reason I can think of that you couldn't reuse the pipe? You will need to find out what size pipe it is? Might want to also measure the length of your current muffler. Then you can figure out what model magnaflow you need. Darren is tops on that stuff so I will refer you to him. If you could post a pic of what you have that might help too!

save your money and spend 150 bucks including the muffler and installation. it usually takes about 30 mins to hack up a new muffler so ull pay probably around 50 bucks depending on the labor rates in your city.
