Cat question?

I want to take off my cats and gut them out, when i put them back in, with my check engine light come on? If so, is this going to ruin my engine and how can i get the light to go away?

Much appreciated!!!

wont ruin the engine but since its a gutted pen cat it will lose low end torque very noticeable, your economy will take a hit, and your just doing too much work.

With no catalyst at all, you will get a engine light.

Remove the stock cats, replace with pre-bent piping and run no cats. Changes in exhaust diameter can fluctuate with velocities which isn't going to help you out when you need power.

So im better off just maybe gutting the cats and run pipe throught them(to look like i have stock ones)? I know that the engine light will come on, i jsut want to figure out if it will ruin my engine or do anything to the engine, and/or how to ge the engine light to go away because i dont want the stock cats anymore but want no cats at all.

You can try fitting pipe through them. Have fun with that though

You can make O2 sims for buy a set of sims for $30 off ebay. If you read up on how to make them with some nuts and a old spark plug threaded end you could make them for $6 if you have time and feel like making it a longer project.

welding the pipe up fully will be a hassle, i was going to cut out coobies cats one night for him and i would of had to have his truck on a lift and welding it fully up would have been nearly impossible. id have shop do it for you if possible, hardest part is finding a shop that will do it for you.

we did the same mod on a friends 98 chevy using the spark plug non foulers auto zone and all those places carry. the reason for drilling is the 02 sensor tip is to wide so you hit before you can screw it in. for his truck it didn't work to well, his check engine light ended up just burning out. only issue your going to have throwing a code is if your country requires emissions testing. if it does not i wouldn't worry about it.
