True dual size question
#32
I forgot to ask, is it possible to have the rear cats gutted? I don't want to buy hi-flows because cash is tight. I've read that hi flows raise the volume by about 40%, which I'd love. Will they perform like hi-flows? Is there a sound difference in exit, such as 45'ed versus straight back? Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks

Yeah, my low end felt stronger stock. So i'm kinda bummed about that. I do wish I had gone with 2.25" but my judgment took over. My 2500HD Chevy came with 3" duals stock and since that was a 364ci and my Ford is a 330 i thought 2.5" would work out well, well its ok but on up hill climbs and when towing the low end sucks until past 40mph.

yea you can have them gutted, but its hard to find shops that will, and if you do they will charge about the same as getting hi flow converters, my guy charged me 50 bucks a piece to gut mine...the hi flows i bought were 65.10 a piece.
and theres not THAT much of a sound difference between exits when over the axle and out the back of the truck

Quite possibly, they would help.
Yeah it will move when floored, but those tires were a little on the bald side too so.. 3.7s and a limited slip rear can be fun though.

hmm, reading this post has me wondering. I wanted to put 3 inch true duals on my 06 SD with a 5.4l. I realize this post is about a 4.6, but im going to assume i need to go with a smaller pipe. Im definitly going with SS, Magnaflow hi flow cats and flowmaster 40 series mufflers. It will exit in from of my rear tires at a 45 degree angle.
Im lookin at headers, but im not sure if i should use short equals, short unequals or long tube?
