Those older push rod engines just sound so much better with chambered mufflers.

Good plan. Original 40 ( now labled as Standard 40 Series ) will be a few bucks cheaper than the Super 44, so if cost matters that may help in your choice.

The original has a little more distinct tone to it, a more classic gurgle sound. Once the Delta crap came in thats where the term Original came from.

The Super 44 is a bit deeper to me, and offers the same, if not then better, ear aching thrash on the rev up. I had true dualed Super 44s on my old Chevy truck and good god lol. The single in/out Super 44s are available in t-409 stainless now also, can be ordered from summit racing. Much better, longer lasting and prettier looking than the aluminized steel.

The 44 will have more rasp and "whish" sound, if that makes any since. I still say org. 40 sounds better, especially with no cats, but that is my opinion.

Darren... Where are you getting this "standard 40" thing from? There website doesn't show a standard, but they do still show the original. Not try to be a jack ***, just curious.

Its been about 5 months since I have looked at their website, and you are correct. They are still calling it the Original 40. Thanks for clearing that up. Last spring when they brought it back it was labeled as the Standard 40.

Edit

I've been looking over their site now, I am very impressed, they seem to have really kicked into gear now. They even have a 409 stainless Super 44 now, not just the SI/SOs. Kudos to Flowmaster Inc, I am impressed. Good job.

And only about $13 more per muffler than the aluminized, people you got to be crazy to not to 409 then!

^ That's not a bad deal. I am curious about those classic 40's. Stainless box muffler. Did you read about them?

So if I decide to go with the Original 40 would this be the right one for me...Part#843041 or if I decide with the Super 44 would this be it...Part#843046

Ive been looking at a couple videos on You Tube and I like the 40 a lil more as of right now...its not as raspy and not so loud

I have heard them both on the same car, and they are both about the same volume, but like you said the 40 is deeper and has a better rumble where as the 44 is more raspy.

The 44 sounds good with stock cats, but when you do away with that, the org. 40 is the only way to go IMO.

thanks guys!!....So today I got a lil bored and went ahead chopped my tail pipe and jus left the glasspack(basically dumped at the glasspack) it sounded a lil better but not much difference. After that I just went ahead and chopped the glasspack off(just leavin the cat) I like the way it rumbles now!!!! Can I jus chop the cat off and run 3" strait pipe and not hurt my engine performance wise???

Removing cats will hurt your performance if you do not get a custom tune to add more fuel to make up for the torque loss, and no cats and straight pipe? Are you joking! Or do you mean with a muffler/glasspack? That could work then.
