super 44 is better flowing. Original 40 (forget what it is called now) has people's preference in terms of the "Official Flowmaster sound"

super 40 is junk, 44 sounds good with stock cats only and has a more raspy flavor, where as the org. 40 has a nice deep rumble that sounds great with stock cats, hi flows, or no cats!

could make an adapter but it would be better to have a 3 inch intermediate pipe

Original Flowmaster sound? Sounds like you're in need of the Original 40 series.
http://www.summitracing.com/search/O...=flowmaster+40

The $80 one is an Original 40, the $100 one is a 40 series delta. The Original 40 is what you will want, and the reason its priced that high is because its stainless steel, only ones worth getting.

Original 40s part#s begin with the number 4, the delta versions begin with 9s, just to inform you in your search if you decide to order elsewhere. Stainless mufflers begin with an 8, and the stainless 40s first two digits are 80.

Only Flowmaster keeps the inlet size a half inch thicker than the dual tailpipe outlets. Nearly everyone else offers random assortment of inlet and outlet sizes. Its best to run a full 3" single exhaust from the Y pipe for sound gain. Flowmasters sound real good with a 3" intermediate pipe to 2.5" tailpipes.

Yes you can do that. If you do not wish to change so much of the exhaust you do not have to. But depending on the condition of your current exhaust pipe you may consider it, depending on your climate. But you still dont have to. OEM exhaust is a low grade stainless. It should still be well intact.
