Volant install questions-HELP

I recently purchased a Volant 19754 CAI kit for my 2006 5.4. I tried to install it tonight but I am having a problem trying to fit the box. I followed the instructions but I cannot get the box to sit flush on the tray. I think that the big wire harness is in the way and there is no place to try to move it. Also the square intake opening that is supposed to go into the opening behind the headlight won't go in easy because of the hood latch release cable and another harness for the lights going through that. Anyone else have trouble or any solutions? Thanks.

Hello!

Regretfully you've discovered the quality issues plaguing this intake. Also, research would show that these intakes were so poorly engineered that certain components that were supposed to live in the engine bay were melting in normal use. Kinda shows someone dropped the ball in the R&D department.

The Volant Rep guy that used to post on here has disappeared after I ripped him a new one and called him out on this. Was not purty

On top of all of that, the Volants that were dynoed by an independent authority just flat layed down above 4,000 rpm. Good grief.

Performance intake? No. Joke? Yes.

The solution? Stay stock (with the small intake mod described elsewhere - see the Tech Articles section), or an S&B - which is a decent intake.

Also - be advised - these full CAI's redefine the cross-section in the MAF region, which usually means A/F's should be checked at a minimum, or a custom tune be employed, which is the safest & most optimal route.

Not what you wanted to hear, I'll wager. This is the primary reason I always urge Everyone to do the homework, ask questions, ask some more questions, call some respected tuning shops, ask even more questions, then drop yer hard-earned cash. A LOT less stressful and a LOT more likely that you will be happy. To me, this is just common sense.

Good luck.

This is the first I've heard anything bad of the Volant intakes.
How about the dyno results, any idea where they might be found and/or what models?

Never had any problem with the Volant in my 05, was a little tight but after a cpl minutes it found its home. Damn good intake IMO, one of only 1 or 2 true cold air intakes on the market.

i remember when i was one of the test trucks for the outlaw intakes back in 06...they dynoed my truck with the stock intake, stock intake with k&n drop in, the outlaw intake, and a volant intake. i remember watching the volant lid actually flex inward under heavy acceleration....it choked the intake and as mgd said, died above 4000...actually less hp/tq than the stock intake. after removing the lid, it performed slightly better than stock, but that defeats the purpose of the cai.

the outlaw actually made a little more power than the stocker, but its loud!
heres the vid with my truck in it...ive since sold the truck and now have an 06 fx4!

So the air inlets of the Volant box were too restrictive? Hard to believe it would be worse than stock though. Interesting. I always thought it would be neat to spend some time on a dyno with a handful of products from different manufacturers, intakes, catbacks, etc. and see how they all compare on paper.

I had the same problem with fitment on the Volant intake I got. I just ended up selling the thing rather than fighting with it.

i was pretty shocked when i saw that happen too...i was actually going to buy a volant at the time but my friend told me about how outlaw was looking for a test truck and a free intake would be involved! lol so i went with it. they had a couple trucks and tested different brand intakes too. i guess they had another guy try out an aem intake and then come back and try theirs, but the dude took off with the aem and never came back so we couldnt test that on the dyno.

i just remember seeing that lid flex like crazy under heavy throttle. pretty crazy...not sure if volant has released a revised version or not?

I never had fitting or peformance problems with my Volant. I've had it for 3 years and I'm extremely happy.

Now I know why I am hardly on here anymore. The first reply basically told me I bought a piece of junk and don't have common sense. Then the next few posts go off on the first reply. When I first bought my truck back in 2005 this forum was super helpful. Most of the stuff on here now is: Wow I can't believe you did that or why would you want to do that etc. We all buy what we want and do what we want because we can and that's what modding is about. Lately everytime I ask a question I get no replies or get somebody elses opinion, what happened on here??

I guess this is my defensive reply now ... I did do research and never heard anything bad about the Volant. I have a programmer already and was planning to have custom tunes done. I use my truck for daily driving and towing a camper on occasion. I don't know about you guys but my truck is not driven above 4000rpm on a regular basis, actually I hardly ever go that high, it's not a race truck.

Lastly I guess I will call the company for help... thanks anyways.
