Not happy with Exhaust
I recently had a Borla dual catback exhaust system installed on my 2004 F150Lariat super crew. It is the 5.4L. It is not as loud as I wanted. I cannot even hear is when the engine is idling or I am at regular cruising speeds. It sounds good when i first start it up and I am accelerating. If I have the catalytic converter removed will it sound better? What would be the benefit of doing this and what would be the downside?

thats strange, I got a cheep knock off stock SI/DO 2" out, and you can hear the truck start, its loud, and mild when running, at highway speeds its there but hard to hear over the wind noise when the window is down.
here is a example.

Catalytic converter removal is a federal law breaker, so understand that before you go cat-less. If caught, you will have fines, and impound fees, and if you cant pay the fines your truck may be crushed.
You can remove the rear cats and still remain visually legal. But if you in an emissions county, dont bother. The best way to go about it is to remove the stock 4 cats for 2 hi-flow cats to burn the gases fully, and keep the CEL off.

I agree.
I wouldn't cut your cats out.
I'm sure there would be a sound increase, and maybe a "slight" power increase, but all-in-all they are there for a reason.
Its pretty obvious when your following a new truck and it smells like **** that the cats are gone. you don't want to be getting pinched.
I;m sure your exhaust will open up. Give it some time.
you should hgave went with a 3" system if you wanted sound.
I'm assuming most of the kit is 2 1/2"?

im in the same spot as he is. i just put on slp loudmouth 2's on my 05 5.4 and its not very loud. i would like it louder but i still need to pass pennsylvania emmission test. would removing all 4 cats and going with high flow ones sound better and still pass emmissions? how about removing the back 2, what would that do?

i was just sayin. he is sayin its not loud enough for him right now and he already has borlas, ya gotta cut somethin to get it louder. i think he'd probaly be best off leavin the borlas to keep the sound of them, but installin longtubes and only two high flow cats.
