Dont bother until you custom tune. Your running a bit lean as is with your 04 - 05 factory tune.

I resized my tires, put on a tuner and went for a ride. The difference was not great. Then I put on the CAI went for a ride and was stunned, now it gets up and hops. I am waiting for custom tunes but the nice people at PHP suggested running the tow (#2) tune in the meantime. I would not do one without the other.

I'm running with no tune and a k&n Cai and custom exhaust never experienced any problems. I have a gryphon coming soon.

According to Troyer you dont need a tune with the Air Force 1 3" and thats including the 04-05. Im still thinking of picking one up.

I thought that was the case only IF your truck didn't come with a near lean factory tune? If I remember correctly some '04s and '05s do not run as lean as others and those are the ones that will be okay with the Airaid or AF1 CAI. The other trucks that came from the factory with a leaner factory tune will still run dangerously lean.

I checked the Troyer site and didn't see any mention of it but I'm positive that I've read that somewhere.

There have been too many that added a CAI and got codes. It is not worth the risk in my opinion. Just get custom tunes if you are doing the CAI. The tunes will do far more for performance than the intake, anyway. The intake sounds good and looks good, but can't do what a tune does.

This was from Troyers mouth himself, I didnt understand if a truck runs lean already and you have a cai of any kind how it wouldnt run lean but im not a tuner. I had a Troyer custom tune and Edge and went back to stock. I also had an S&B cai after the tunes and my truck ran great but popped a lean code after running it for a year. So I went back to stock and just replaced the panel filter with and AEM dry filter.
