Header install

Just ordered the Pacesetter LT for my 2000 5.4.

Any suggestions on what to put on the "Y" pipe after the headers?
I had also ordered the "Y" pipe through Pacesetter.

Any suggestions on gaskets or studs/bolts to use with these headers?

Muffler suggestion would be helpful also.

I plan on taking off the entire exhaust to put on the headers, Y pipe, and some type of muffler.

Any help would be appreciated, not sure if there is a link that shows how to put these on or not.

Thanks

Any straight through muffler of your choice. Borla, and Magnaflow would be your best selections here.

Sorry I was not clear. I meant after I place the Y pipe on the headers what, in your opinion, would be best from the Y pipe back. Looks like the Borla or Magnaflow.

Where can I get the stage 8 locking header bolts?

Would you happen to have a part number for the Magnaflow?

Just want a single in and single out.

And is there anything I need to look out for during this addition? Like wire extensions for the o2 etc.

Thanks.

^ It really just depends what you are looking for as far as sound goes. You want it deep and mean sounding, or stupid loud... I like the borla my self. It is a little more tuned sounding and has a little different growl to it IMO.

You can order bolts online.

avfrog, I would like it more deep and mean. Nothing stupid.

I started to pull the exhaust off last night starting at the back of the truck working my way to the front. I have all the pipe off up to the cats. I then pulled both wheel well inners off so I could get at all the bolts on the manifolds. Sprayed every bolt with the PB Blaster stuff including the emissions/egr piping.

Any suggestions on trying to remove the nuts and studs? They look like they grew a large amount of fur over the last 10 years. Must be from the cold Michigan winters? I did try to scrape some of the rust off and noticed that one nut is missing on the drivers side furthest back on the bottom and both are missing on the passenger side on the back cylinder. Not sure if that is normal but would explain the exhaust leak.
I have not placed a socket on any of them yet, i wanted the penetrating oil to do some work first.

any suggestions or help would be appreciated, this looks like an F'ed up job.

Stage 8 bolts or Percy's split lock bolts.... I, as well as many others, use and prefer Dynomax mufflers... either the Bullet or Ultra Flo

I have already purchased the pacesetter headers and Y pipe, should be in my hands by Tuesday.
I plan on getting all of the old stuff off, put the LT headers on with the stage 8 bolts, put the Y pipe on, then some type of muffler and dump it.

Currently I have the exhaust dumped without any issues or complaints about the noise.
I don't have to worry about emissions due to Michigan not needing any checks to get plates so I am deleting the cats.
I see a lot of people talking about tunes also. I have no idea about them so any help would be appreciated. Do I need to take my truck somewhere or is this something I can order and put on myself????

^ Dynomax will not be as deep and "toned" as the Borla. I think my set up with LT's would sound awesome!

Well I got all of the studs out without breaking any off in the head. With the nut extracter set and the stud remover set all went pretty smooth for a 10 year old truck with 175,000 miles through Michigan winters.
There was a lot of crust on those nuts but all in all it wasnt that bad.
Just need to get them header on Tuesday and I can try to put them in without too many mods.
Do you know what Borla part number I should get? I think that is the direction I want to go without the cats. I cant believe these truck run with all those screens in each cat. I could barely see light through all of that.

Your running a single muffler so...

Borla Pro XS - 40359

The 3" version of my mufflers. Make sure you run 3" pipe after the Y pipe to the tip. This will give you max performance and sound with those new headers!

You could also go with the Borla XR-1 - 40943. This may be too loud with LT and no cats though. You may get a little too much attention. ha ha

Oh, forgot you said nothing stupid loud... Disregard the XR-1
