2006 5.4 CAI question

I have been a member for about a month and was a lurker for two months prior. The info from members on this site led me to purchase a 2006 crew cab XLT 4x4 and I LOVE it! Now the thoughts of mods are floating around in my head and I was wondering if the 06 trucks have problems running lean with a CAI like the 04, 05 trucks?

It's not as common, but it has happened. Most of the experts will tell you they would not install a A/M intake on a 5.4 3V engine without a custom tune.

Since you've been lurking, can I assume you understand that intakes are really a waste of money unless you're looking for eye candy?

Have you considered the DMV mod?

I have considered the DMV mod and would probably go that route, are people replacing the air filters with an aftermarket filter when they do the mod or is it common to use the OEM air filter. Also in regard to the original question, it was mostly asked for the sake of collecting knowledge. I have no hard and fast plans for mods yet, just getting ideas.

IMHO the OEM filter is your best option. It does the best job of keeping the fine particulates out of your engine.

If you decide on an A/M filter, I would recommend you stay away from any oiled filter.

Oiled filters like K&N are just fine, as long as you don't over oil it.
