dual borla XR-1s on the way...soon

I got the x-pipe and the other xr-1. I will try to get it done this week but I have a few things to take care of before running to the muffler shop. The guy quoted me 240-250 which is even cheaper than the 330 or so this same shop charged me last year for my current setup. We had to clear things up with tail pipe exits, I was told by my inspection station last year the lightning style is not passable, muffler guy said it was, I eventually called the dmv/dot inspection guys and was told it was so I will be running dual tips out before the front tire, which is what I really wanted. I will keep you guys posted with some pictures and maybe a new video by the end of the week if all goes well.

The two cats have to stay, I will be running 3" all the way.

DAMN! It is a shame to see those cats stay in place, but I'm excited to hear your critique!

Be prepared for a loss of low end... 3" duals is to large for our motors. The good thing is, 3" will sound bad *** for sure!

How do you pass emissions in MO. without the cats? I was born and raised there some 20 years ago and the only way one could get something passed back in the day was getting the hook up from this guy down in St. Louis, but that ended when he got caught....

I am actually going to order a pair of these one day. Then I can advertise I have "allflow" cats. Only people that research them will know what they are...

Congrats man. I would strongly re-consider running 2.5" pipes with the 3" mufflers, not full 3", even blown your truck may suffer a little, but if you plan to beef it up even more then good luck to ya. A video clip will be mandatory.

Darrin do you think 3 inch pipes after the muffler would be too large (if he ran 2.5 inch from the cats to the mufflers???

I would vote yes, even though it will reach the muffler at its steady velocity, and static pressure, with a straight through muffler it would act like massive length exhaust tips, it could still perform well, but I wouldn't go thicker than the midpipe size. I don't believe there has ever been such a dyno on a V8 truck, a rice burner possible since most ricer systems are 2.25" in 4" outlet Though ricers aren't about low end torque so..

How would one approach this then? I am set to get it installed this Tuesday and want this to be my last exhaust upgrade for a while at least.

I had researched that I could run the dual 3" as HP wise (around 500 at the crank) I am right on the border from 2.5" going to 3" if I did my math correctly, but then again my math sux.. There was this formula out there with cfm and hp but I cannot for the life of me find the thing again. I also heard that the LT's were more critical in tuning than what comes after, and then there are others that state the first 6 feet is where its at, which is almost to the mufflers.

My plan was from the cats which are 3" to run 3" pipes to the x-pipe which is 3"'s as well, 3" intermediates to the borlas and out 3"'s to 3.5" tips tucked up in front of the rear tire.

Well high end performance wise it could perform well, but for your basic driving it will put a strain on your drivetrain, but if you dont drive it daily then I guess you could go ahead with it and run 3". 2.5" is the best of both worlds though. Even the blown Lightnings ran dual 2.5" maximum and still ran 14s to 11s when modded right.
