5.4 2v 1997 Expedition Full or Partial

I need to replace my exhaust. Probably from the cat. I'm questioning if it's a worthy investment to get headers and just eliminate the cats all together.

Any guys with the 1997 5.4 2v gain much from headers, and if so what did you think?

I'm almost 100% settled on a livewire programmer with custom tunes but wanted to know if since I have to replace the whole damn exhaust anyway if headers would help and then make sure I get my custom tune with that in mind.

Let me know your opinion fellas, and ladies.

LT headers will give you great sound as well as a significant increase in performance through out the entire torque curve.

Shorties offer a little bit better sound, and that is about it...

I have been looking and it's tough to find LT. Summit doesn't really seam to have anything, not sure where to search

Look into OBX, or Dynatech LTs if you can justify the price tag. Two of the best headers to go with. Troyer masters in Dynatech.

From my research it's mostly a lost cause unless I'm willing to spend a LOT of money. It's hard to take out the old, hard to fit in the new, and the more I read the tougher it sounds. I guess it's just from the cat back for me, and if I want more power i'll get a procharger rig or something of that nature! Save the money on the LT's and get a lift with bigger rubber.

Do you like your magnaflow quite a bit darren? I actually don't want my truck to be loud as all hell. A deep grown would be nice but that's all I

Yes i've been happy with it for the 21,000 miles i've had it so far. They are great mufflers, durable, and deep toned. With LTs and hi-flow cats, I would suggest to you the 18" Magnaflow muffler for a good noticeable sound, but not crazy loud.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't care if the truck was next to silent as long as it got the best power and fuel economy. I'm really thinking LT headers might be more trouble than it's worth. O2 sensor would have more delay, and all other kinds of stuff to deal with as far as getting them in there. With the 4wd and how the underside of my truck looks it would be a pure nightmare to take out the old and install anything much less long tubes.

that's awesome. I thought because in the tag words it said shorty it wasn't a long tube. Interesting, and I thank you. I thought they looked odd for being a shorty.

OK so I now know I need new CATs. Can I get away with only 1 on each side? What's the best for getting the most power when it comes to CATs? I don't think the headers will be going anywhere.

As for the rest of the exhaust I would like something with a deep tone and not ear shatteringly loud. I don't mind a bit of noise at WOT but when driving in the neighborhood I don't need to wake anyone up.

What do you gents think for CATs AND back?
