Final questions for exhaust buy

Been reading tons of threads in this section for the past few weeks and I think I'm ready to pull the trigger. I was going to go Magnaflow cat-back, but it seems the prevailing wisdom is to just buy the muffler and tips and save yourself some cash.

I have a 2010 F-150 Screw, 4x4, 5.6 bed.

That said, I'm looking for a SI/DO, hopefully good sound and low drone in the cab (got a baby on the way ). By this thread it seems the Magnaflow 12198 would be the exhaust to purchase, and since my truck is 4x4, get 4" x 18" tips, Part #35117

Everything look kosher before I pull the trigger? Any other suggestions or reccomendations?

And forgive my ignorance, but when I take these parts to an installer (midas?), do I just tell them where I want the exit to be ( dual straight out the back, paired before or after the rear passenger tire) and they take care of the rest? What's a ballpark figure on the labor?

go for it. my pops just bought the same exact thing your lookin at, got a si/do magnaflow aftermarket exhuast for it. it has a nice tone to it, little drone inside. granted i very much prefer the deep growl and sheer noise level my straight pipes give me, in no way can i complain about a magnaflow muffler. flowmasters however im biases against, after having myself..

Well, I got a hold of the shop to make an appointment to get it installed. First piece of bad news is that I have to wait until the 27th. 2 questions:

1. I told him I bought the 12198 muffler. He stated I should have bought a 12158 instead. Thoughts? He said he could "make it work."

2. I told him I had the muffler and the 2 tips, and that I wanted them straight out the back Like this. (although now I am partial to the picture that was posted by Darren)
He quoted me $430 for stainless pipes and labor, or $300 for aluminum pipes and labor. Does that seem reasonable or high? Any opinions on stainless vs. aluminum?

sounds good to me, if i had somewhere around here that worked with stainless let alone at $430 for pipes and labor, i would have been there in a heartbeat.....

Sounds a little high to me. I paid $350 for stainless from the cats back x'ed and true dual all the way back with mandrel bends. You should call around and find an independent that won't try to screw you. Since he can't do the install till the 27th, that will buy you some time. Good luck!

Nope, have no plans to as it does not bug me, nor is it really that noticeable.

But I did do something to the exhaust recently that effected it greatly, TBA.
