Magnaflow or Borla

I just got my first truck this past Saturday and I am definitely a newbie, but I'm already hooked. I think my truck looks bad *** but it does not sound badass. So, the first thing I'm going to do is upgrade the exhaust system. I have read through lots of the exhaust threads and think I have narrowed down my search to two brands. It seems to me that Borla is very good but expensive and Magnaflow is almost as good but less expensive (Not the case with the two links below). I think I'm going to go with a single cat-back system and have put the links for the two ones I'm looking at. I want my truck to have a nice throaty low sound like a boat. Also the truck has a 3" lift with 35" tires. Can I still use a standard cat-back, or will it have to be custom? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

IMO magnaflow. i've heard to many of the borla systems crackle and pop (even though they sound good).

So am I going overboard with a whole cat-back system? Replacing the muffler only will give me the sound I'm looking for with either brand?

Muffler swap is all you should really have to do. Borla ProXS will sound fantastic. Magnaflow 14" body wont be far behind in the sound quality of the Borla.

I have the Roush off road catack system and the muffler was made by Borla. I love the sound of it so I say go with Borla. Either one will sound good as I have heard quite a few 14" maggies sound good

Which cat-back system did you get?

I just ordered a Magnaflow 16616 dual side exit in front of rear tire.

I ended up getting it for $436.67 + free shipping + no tax by using code "fordtruck8" on www.hottexhaust.com That was the best deal I could find. There were a couple of others but they were out of stock.

Cheers! Ben, OH

I just clicked the Magnaflow link on your post.

It's 16518 .. right?

If you ordered that one are you sure it will fit your truck?

You show that you have a 78" bed?

The link on Magnaflow's website shows the below text for that product and it "excl. Supercrew w/78in bed"

16518
DESCRIPTION: V8 4.6L, 5.4L Crew/Extended Cab, Short Bed, Excl. Supercrew w/78in. Bed Length or Extended Cab w/66in. Bed Length
5 x 8 x 18 in. Muffler, 3 in. Tubing, 4 in. Slash Tip; SINGLE REAR SIDE EXIT

^ Agreed. Buy mufflers and tips and let a shop do a custom job!

Hi all. Thanks for the advice. I ended going with the Magnaflow Cat-back part number 16518 from hottexhaust.com. I used the coupon code "Fordtruck8" that I found on the forum and got it for $418 (saved me $139.50) . FX4SURE, thank you for the advice. I called Magnaflow AND Hottexhuast to make sure it fits my truck. My truck is a supercab not a supercrew so it will fit. I asked them about a muffler swap, and they said i will get the sound i was looking for but not the HP and performance that the full cat-back would give me. May have been a sales pitch, but it worked. If i can figure out how to post videos/pics, I will.

As long as your happy, your good to go.

Most people prefer going to a custom shop to save some money, but if you get the full system and put it on yourself and are happy with the outcome then just as well. BTW - pics and vids required!!
