why do people get the idea that straight pipes are good for the motor? dont they have no backpressure at all therefore interfering with the lifespan of some part in the motor then u gotta rip the block apart and put it backtogether with that new part? i forgot what it was some car nut was tellin me at the autoparts store....didnt know if i shud believe him or not tho...input guys? besides if its junk why would the manufacturer waste money on it? if thats the case id sell truck with just a pipe on it from the headers turned down before the axle and still charge the same

Yeah already set it up to get new headers and pulleys, and also getting the rear diff re-geared. that should do it unitl they make supercharger for my engine.

Backpressure is a myth cooked up by rednecks that can't grasp the concept of exhaust velocity.

x2. Velocity, static pressure, scavenging, and temperature is what an exhaust is about. The pipe layout, bends, and sizing, all effect these areas.

so wut u guys are tellin me is that if an proper exhaust set up is planned out accordingly and for the best of the trucks engine you can do straight pipes? pipe layout size, bends, etc.?

An exhaust best performs with packed straight through mufflers to retain a good velocity hold for low end energy. Straights are better than any open chamber muffler with baffles though.

ok, soo.
1. staright thru (magnapack, bullet etc.)
2. straight pipe instead of muffler
3. open chambered

If power is your only concern:

1) Straights
2) Magnaflows/Borlas/Corsas/Bullets
3) Everything else

Yep, and what 4.6 said is pretty much the same. Straights & packed mufflers perform the same under WOT, the velocity hold is better in the packed straight throughs for low end energy is all, which all trucks need to tow and all.
