Gears will be worth the $ for serious towing.

Well, as far as towing goes, my F150 HD is factory 4.10's, and I'd have to say the ceiling for pulling is about 10,000lbs. At 67 mph, the truck is doing 2000 rpm. No struggle pulling at that speed, but getting it going is some work, even with 4.10's. Go for the torque.

Real Gears for towing means a Gear Vendors unit. That's coming as soon as my powerball ticket hits.

Powerball tickets hahaha let me know when you win. I made mistake when i said my truck was at 2300 rpms at 65. I meant 70. I notice the gears the most in the first gear right out of the hole, and when it upshifts into 2nd. Truck takes off there. I would rather have long tubes with a custom tune over gears though, for the sure fact of the tq gains, like said by slabcab.

i think that headers would prob be the next thing i do because 1. the price is almost 1/4 the price as 4x4 gears 2. tq 3. sounds bad a$$ wth a 3" magnapack

maybe someday ill do the gears and then ill never know my trailer will even be back there!!

I would do gears over headers...

Gears you will feel at ALL throttle positions.

Headers really only when you start mashing the gas.

Gears will take less strain on your drive train.

I would do the gears first.

My 4.56s will be installed shortly, headers after.

so since nobody else asked i will, what do you tow? is it an atv, car, boat, house? if its just an atv then i think 410s would be plenty. also just looked at your sig, you have 3in true dual exhaust, if i read it right. that is your problem your missing out on some lowend torque cause of that.

I noticed good improvement in power with headers but it was more with my foot to the floor. I also notice a good improvement when I went up to Payson last weekend if I was crusing at about 70 with little throttle effort my truck had more power to get up to 80-90mph. So basically at higher RPM which makes sense as headers move your power band up.

I hear that.. when my supercharger was down, and running NA, with my true dual 3" exhaust even with the 4.10s it was a real dog, couldn't get out of its own way.

I was just thinking this myself as I was reading. Unless hes pulling big, or planning on bigger tires later, IMO 4.56 may be a little over kill.

He has a SIDO system, not true duals.

I pull a 4000lb (just tools) -4500lb (depending on what is inside of it) cargo trailer for my construction business with racks and normally 2-4 extension ladder ontop. And during the summer I'll pull an 18' flat tandom with up to 4 quads on it but that weighs way less than the cargo.

As for the exhaust its a single in dual out 3" system, not true duals.

When my 285s wear out I planned on getting the same BF tire but in the 305 range if the funds are there. So yes I do plan on getting bigger tires. I never plan on getting anything smaller than the 285 again.

Does anyone watch Trucks on Spike tv? I was watching an episode it may have been last season on their second change silverado. But they got some stuff from a super nice salvage place in gorgia I believe, just wondering if anyone knows the web site to that place? I was wanting to check out some stuff from there anyways but I thought about check out if they have whole axles with 4.10s already in them that would be a direct swap with mine. When I was talking to the dealership he recommended to just keep my eye out for a wrecked truck with those gears and swap the axles because that would be cheaper.

what gears do you have now cause, i'd say 410s but if you have 373s now and they aren't cuttin it then you should go with 456s.

as for the exhaust you are still missing out on low end power, just not as much.
