Air Filters worth it?

Just bought an '05 XLT 5.4 and was thinking about putting in an air intake.

But, I wanted to get peoples opinions about them and their take. I don't tow anything worth mentioning and quite frankly I don't really plan on it either.

Good? Bad? Indifferent?

Save your money for this:

Gryphon CS programmer

by doing this:

The Gotts Mod Revisited - For 2004+ Trucks

JMO though.

X2 on the gotts but you can also add an aftermarket drop in filter.

But I still like the older monochrome gryphon. Why pay $479 when you can get by at $399...but my opinion is a bit biased because I like my mc gryphon.

Yes it's worth it

Not only does it impove gas mileage but it alows your engine to breath more efficently and if you put on a exhaust it sounds alot better. there are alot of good products out there.... I would go with AIRAID or K&N your looking at about 350-450 for a full system throttlebody to filter

Oh yeah, but that is without the dash pod. I was just trying to get the price if the only difference was the programmer.

I would definitely do the gotts and an aftermarket filter of the brand you want. Has the same benefits of an aftermarket system but at a fraction of the price, and you dont worry about the truck running lean.

So the base Gryphon comes with the pod?

Those are both **** poor systems. The only aftermarket CAI I would be or recommend would be a S&B system. It's cheaper than those 2 and has an enclosed box for the element.

you can run whatever system you want and your going to see around the same gains in HP and mileage.. Iv'e seen many diffrent setups on a dyno and seen 1 or 2 HP diffrence max with just a Air intake

Yes while the CS/CTS comes with a suction cup mount.

The HP isn't my biggest reason for getting it as I don't tow.

But I've read and heard some stuff on the mileage that it can make a difference.

It might have but not significantly. I think I saw more improvements all around with the gotts but that is because I already had the K&N.

pros.
Sound
Looks
power (may or may not make any)

Cons
noisy
cost can be a issue depending on where you get it.
power (see above)
IAT WILL rise.

Its really a cosmetic thing, do you like the sound? and do you want to spend the money? I got my AEM used from a member here for $175 I think.

You are not going to see any major MPG changes.

I love my AEM intake, and for $175 not only does it clean the engine bay looks up, it also sounds great. But thats just me.

Here is a in cab video.

AEM has a video showing the sound difference between stock and AEM from a truck coming head on.
