You don't owe me an apology .... though maybe I owe you one for picking at your post? It just struck me funny like that. Louder is not "more agressive", it's just louder. I've had my Chevelle SS with 454 and Tri-Power and my GTO and my Swinger and trucks and T-birds and most of every one of them had nice sounding exhaust ..... with mufflers.
Yes, running straight exhaust behind the cats with no restriction will usually lead to the cats not getting as hot, not working at peak efficiency, and I suspect, fouling. Perhaps you are hearing cats that are clogging up slowly, or not hearing as well because you're losing some hearing?
Who knows?
I do know that as I read these posts, not just yours, but many many others ...
... posted by those who run straight pipes ...
... and I wonder how do they stand it? I mean the the noise and the tickets?
Besides, you have to know you just pi55 people off when you come through parking lots and down town, even those who refuse to look your way are muttering.
Hey, not a negative post, just talking out loud. I was a kid once, I learned some things, and some I still have to learn. Do as you see fit.

tbear, these trucks with 4 cats are not the same as those 80's models trucks with straight pipes. they actually sound good. its still tame and has a deep exhaust tone at idle and while accelerating.
