Exhaust for 4.6l

Hi guys,

I have recently removed my stock muffler and fabricated a straight pipe to dump it past the cab. Just running cats right now and I like the sound alot. I plan on keeping this truck for another 5-7 years. I also plan on doing some research and getting a programmer for the truck to open it up. Should I get a true exhaust system or is it going to hurt anything by leaving the muffle off?

you cost yourself much needed low end torque that the 4.6 doesn't have much of to start with...

The stock Y-pipe causes more restriction and hurts performance more than doing what he did.

If you like the way it sounds now, great. If you want a truly magnificent sounding exhaust, true duals might be up your alley.

So keeping the pipe off will hurt my torque... Ok I was thinking it seemed a little sluggish. I want the sound but i definitely do not want any losses in performance.

get yerself some 2.25" dynomax bullets along with a x or h pipe, and do a proper exit which consists of out the side(s) or the back, or dumped after the axle, not before

Sounds like a plan. Although it will not be a quick one. I have a pretty good muffler shop up the way that can help me out. Thanks for the input all.

So, I have decided to eventually run true dual exhaust...have not picked out a muffler yet.
Starting with headers for a 4.6l what would be a good bet? I do not want to spend over 400 for the pair. Any past experiences would be greatly appreciated. I do not really want ceramic coated unless it is necessary. Just a daily driver.

Unless you can find a set of long tube headers, don't even bother with them. Shorties are pointless, unless you want them for "pretty" points. A good stainless set of long tubes can cost you up to $900.

As for the mufflers, there are so many choices, but only a few that actually sound good. Hop on Youtube and find something you like.

Those are just painted steel. Depending on where you live, they may or may not last long.

Well in that case, go for them. I checked the part numbers with Pace Setter's site and it all matches up. I do have to say that the stock exhaust will NOT bolt up to these. So hopefully the shop that installs these headers can also bend pipes.

Yeah the guys that put my pipe on right now did a damn good job...quite affordable too. Ok I will give these a shot and get some new exhaust at the same time.
