Going the Wrong Way?

Let's pose a hypothetical situation:

Say I'm tired of running a loud exhaust and am ready for a nice quiet ride. What would my options be in terms of quietness and cost to change things out?

Summary of now:
- 2.5" true duals
- dynomax bullets
- hi-flow universal cats (these were fried a while back so they are getting replaced regardless)
- gryphon programmer w/custom tunes

What could I do.to minimize cost? Will be taking it to a shop...

Since I'm at 2.5" pipe now I'd expect it to be more expensive to go back to the stock 2.25", unless they have to replace the pipe anyway....would also expect to have to get my tunes updated for that.

So maybe a straight muffler swap and switch out the cats for new ones?

Are there any aftermarket mufflers out there that would give a nice quiet ride? Seems like aftermarket would be cheaper than buying stock mufflers, anyway....

Or at least a muffler that would give a nice tone but keep mostly quiet. I'd normally search this kind of thing but most everyone wants to go louder.

Thanks!
-Matt

I don't know about cost, but a good performer that is very quiet is the bigger Magnaflow. Way too quiet for me!

Yeah I was thinking the bigger Maggies might be the way to go.

Then again, the more I think about it the more I realize how stupid-loud the Bullets are. I remember getting them installed and driving home thinking "holy cow!".

Anything I switch to will likely seem quiet in comparison.

You wanna keep your true duals? Yeah...Borla PRO XS's or dual 18" magnaflows. You can get different/quieter high flow cats too.

No preference, really, on the duals. I do want dual tips, though, so I see it being more of a hassle to change it. Unless I do a DI/DO muffler?

No preference on the cats, either. I had some coils go bad a while back and they were fried while I diagnosed what was wrong. By the time I replaced the coils it was too late. Just now getting around to changing them out. Performance Peddler has the Maggie universals I bought last time for ~$55/ea.

I'd leave it alone and just change the mufflers... save yourself the hassle bud

I wonder if there is anyone in your general area who may have his original factory muffler, that he removed from his truck in favor of aftermarket rumble. I know I still have my factory muffler sitting behind the garage for my '10. If you can find one, might be a super cheap option.....

Get a DIDO magnaflow to keep your dual pipes. Make it easy on yourself. Get 11386. Its the 14"(20" overall) It has an X built in, so get rid of your bullets and X pipe. You can even sell those 3 items to get some cash back.
