exhaust pipe came loose are they charging too much?

took it to Car x and left it there they called me back with an estimate said that they want to replace three foot of pipe where it came apart instead of just welding it back together. Fine with me. It came apart at a random spot(just rusted out) halfway between where the muffler and cats are. They said it is going to be 80 bucks plus tax. I said thats fine and honestly Im alright with it as long as they do the job right. Isn't that a little high though. I know the guy in my hometown about thirty miles south that I used to take it to would do it for pretty cheap. hell he put the SIDO muffler in and added turndowns to it for 40 bucks. Granted I had bought the muffler from somewhere else. What think ye?

Well, just slightly over charged, more like $50, for less than a half hours work and all, but depending on the pipe quality and labor charge I guess it differs here to there.

Any bends or belling to make?

$80 = Ouch!

But sometimes we bite the bullet.

no bending. I don't know what belling is. Yeah I bit the bullet on this one but Im glad its fixed. It sounded horrible with no exhaust. On another note went to wax my truck yesterday and started to find surface rust spots mainly on front fenders and rockers. AARRRGGHH!!! Wonder if rubbing compound will help

Needed a hanger. That was probably an extra couple bucks. I would say fair... And your truck is fixed now.

Talked to my muffler shop pal just a second ago and he agreed with Darren that $50-60 would be more in line, but if it was needed (which was, I had the same truck once upon a time, except straight cab and no chrome) then the extra was well-spent.

Hey thanks man and thanks for all your help guys. Next time I might try out a different shop in the area probably a mom and pop shop. Id like to get a place that has good prices and customer service that I can rely on.

The work looks very good, nice clean welds and all. Mom and pop might be cheaper but it could be coat hanger welds.

Looks like you got a quality job.

Oh, on the rust spots, if its surface spots on the paint might want to start with clay bar first. Go to the detail forum and cruise around. If it's body cancer...good luck.
