I have a k&n and would look into the gotts mod. Super cheap and has the same effect as a cai. Cai can also lead to lean condition on the 5.4s from 04-08. Mine also has an annoying high pitched whistle at certain rpms. If I could go back, I would have done gotts and got a different mod earlier, such as my grill.

Alright, So I am hearing go with a Gotts Mod. Here is my additional question, does it void my warranty? Just curious, thats why I was looking at the "brand" names was because of warranty issues. Thanks

It won't void your warranty. You could also easily reverse it if anything happens.

I would also use a AMSOIL Ea Air Filter in your stock intake for better airflow.

Ditto on the Amsoil filter, but not for better flow. It's better at filtering and you can tell. It catches so much stuff... I just vacuum out the fibers.

I don't know why you want a CAI, but I will give you my free opinion so take it for what it's worth.

8 months ago, I did the Gotts mod on my 03 Screw 5.4. 3 months ago, I changed out the Gotts mod for a Volant cai. I did these mods to test performance differences while towing a travel trailer and MPG's.

I have kept track of every penny I have spent on fuel since purchasing the truck and have an excel spreadsheet to calculate mpgs. Since I have done these mods, I have had no significant increase or decrease in mpg's. While pulling a trailer, there has been no significant change in performance pulling through hills or while cruising. Again, no mpg change while towing. The only difference both "seemed" to have given me was a slight increase in throttle response.

The cost of the Gotts mod is less than $20. The Volant Cai cost me $120. Neither of these mods have made enough difference for me to recommend either. I will be removing the Volant this weekend and going back to stock. After a few months back in stock form, if no changes are apparent then the cai's will have been for not.

My opinion is based on factual evidence by way of fuel receipts and calculated mpg's. I did not dyno the truck before or after but towing a trailer through the same mountains with the different cai's gave no different behavior than stock. (The volant was louder)

I assume some of your think you need to have a tune and other mods before a cai will show any improvement and I would say that is just another reason to not buy a cai. You will end up wasting more money than you'll ever save by modding your truck.

The only single thing that ever gave me a significant change in my mpg's was changing out the fuel filter.

I like my Volant. No real noticeable numbers but it looks great and it is easy to clean. I really like the lid feature on the Volant. With it open its pretty dang loud and with it closed it sounds almost like stock. I haven't had any problem with it or my motor for 15K miles now.

My next purchase will be a programmer from PHP.
