The right Magnaflow cat, california emissions?!
Hey guys,
First time post to the site, but been a long time user of the information on here. Helped me save a lot of time and money with most of my issues on my trucksin the past 6 years. however I cant find a whole lot of information on replacing the cats on a 2005 F150 with magnaflow hi flows WITH california emissions. I went to my local speed shop to see what they could replace it with and the guy said that i had california emissions on the truck because the O2 sensor was in the middle (he was on the phone with a magnaflow rep). i know 2005 is a funky year and i have the 2 cat system but i fiind it hard to believe i have cali emissions. looks like everyone on here is using the 94106 and have no problems but the guy said i needed the 45056 in order to not throw a code, but they are about triple in price.
Just wondering if anyone has some input on this and can help me out before i go and spend unnecessary money. oh and by the way i have a code P0430, thats why i am replacing the cats.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I live in CA...
I am getting the P0430 code on my truck...I guess P0430 = Bad Cat. I stopped by a local Midas after it threw the first code. They said that the cat is a dealer only item. They even called their vendor and nothing was available for the 2005. From what I can tell the one for my truck is $ 1800.
From my research Magnaflow makes one, but I can't find anyone who sells it for CA?
CA has some very screwy CARB regulations. I think they recently took all of the aftermarket cats off of their list of approved replacements. Might have to torch the truck?

As stated above, you can only replace with direct stock replacements here. If you have 4 cats on your truck, you have to keep 4 cats. Sucks that Mass has similar laws to CA now. Do you have emissions (SMOG) testing too?
This is the site where it is all laid out:

went ahead and got 2 magnaflow 45056 california cats and having them delivered, so hopefully they will work. its only a 2 cat system. as long as the check engine light is off then it will pass inspection in MA, so hopefully the truck responds ok. if not then i guess its 1000 for a stock one, i think ill hang on to the passenger side one thats good for a little while....
