Weld or Clamp

Universal cats. I know weld is preferred. Weld, or is clamp a considerable option?

Weld, you don't want leaks. You'll throw P0420/P0430 if there are leaks.

You got that? Weld! .

Just be sure that the welder is good and does a quality job. Some can not reach the tops of the pipes and there may be leaks that will shortly get even worse.

I bought a used ROR off c-list and went home and clamped it all together. I was skeptical, but its been on for over a year and no leaks. The clamps are huge though, not like the clamps at autozone or what have you. If you get it welded, make sure they can weld. My last welded exhaust, the "installer" welded a brace to my cab. Needless to say I wasn't happy.

I'm assuming he means the installer. Yes it vibrated the whole cab. Ugly day...

It can be tricky welding exhaust. Just because you have a nice bead all the way around the connection, don't jump up and down just yet while patting yourself on the back. Leak test it first, specially if you did it one shot w/no cool downs.

If your welding up a Y that's been tacked in place, then removed to be sealed up, -completed. You have to step weld it in order to not tweak alignment. Sucks when it don't seem to fit after your thru.

That's just some things that can go wrong welding her up, -but welding is the very best way to seal the system and keep it that way.
