2011+ 5.0 Exhaust Specs
I have searched and googled to no avail.
I am looking for the diameter of the various parts of the 5.0 Exhaust system.
From what I gather:
Y-Pipe to resonator is 2.5"
Resonator to Muffler is 2.5"
Muffler exit and tail pipe is 3"
...someone please correct that if it is wrong.
What I am really looking for is the Y-Pipe BEFORE it merges. (from the exhaust manifold to the merge)
Does anyone happen to know what it is?

I read on it the other day

The other thing I noticed is that this system is a true 3" all the way through. The OEM resonator gets choked down to 2.75 or 2.5 at one point. In fact, I could slip the mid-pipe from the Roush system over the outside of the OEM resonator pipe.

Thanks TruckGuy24.
That goes along with what I have found. Im not too worried about that section as it is an easy fix at any local exhaust shop.
I would really like to know the pipe diameter of the section of the y-pipe that connects to the manifolds themselves. the section just after the stock cats.

Nothing crazy.
If you want the short answer:
Chop off the stock Y, Install a Magnaflow or Flowmaster Race Y with a smooth merge and a full 3" collector, run a 3in 3out round muffler in place of the factory resonator, then mate it up with an OTS 3" Magnaflow Cat-back.
My reasoning (the long answer):
Initially, I was just going to toss the muffler, leave the resonator, throw a Magnaflow Cat-back on there and be done. Really all I wanted was better looks as I cant stand the stock pipe exit and the truck. I think some sound will be ok, but I don't want it rumbling the cabin and I need to keep it down because 99% of our driving is in town. I am past the age of wanting to set off car alarms. That was the plan. Then I started looking more into it and the shortcomings of the rest of the system began to bother me.
I came across some photos that Captain Awesome posted about his factory y-pipe and it looked pretty sad. The y-pipe itself looks to be 2.5" or 2.75" and as someone else said looks more like a "T" than a "Y". There is going to be a lot of turbulence at that point, and being that it is also one of the tight spots along the way, that is somewhat of a double no-no. There are also a couple other points along the way where the system is necked down to 2.75"-2.50" and the more I think about it the more I want to discard it.
The guys on here preach true dual exhaust. 2.25" for towing and 2.50" for top end performance... Hmm, what to do? I got to thinking... I know a single 3" pipe outflows a dual 2.25" system, but its flow falls short of a dual 2.5" system... A nice happy medium? I figure I can live with that.
I want my system mandrel bent and no one locally can do it... that means ill likely be buying a cat-back no matter what as it would take care of the more complex sections... the few remaining bends I can buy prefabbed and have a local shop work them in.
A single 3" with 2 healthy straight through mufflers just looks like a good alternative to a true dual system with half a dozen mufflers trying to keep noise levels down.
The truck is still on order and unless they change my date, I have another 5 weeks to over-analyze and obsess about stupid things like this... I wont make my final decision on what I want to do for sure until I see exactly what everything looks like first hand and how much room I have to work with.
