The consensus here for performance is replace all 4 cats with 2 universal high flows (94136?), one each side. You can sell the old cats at the scrapyard to get some of the cost back. Get the high flows that have the bungs for the O2 sensors.

Now, that's going to change the sound, and that Fartmaster will sound like doo-doo. Replace it with a proper performance muffler.

Yup you have a few options the 94136's have the bungs so that's an option too

What would be the best muffler for the price?

Yep, - Two Magnaflow converters w/O2 bungs, because they're OX compliant.

Take your old converters to the scrap yard. That WILL wash the cost of your new converters. Some have even made a little money doing so. Scrap price for the old parts are about $200.

Now, all you'll have to do is pay an exhaust shop to install. Do it this way and you'll save more than you originally though.

With that, you can afford a new Borla Muffler. A little pricey, but worth it.

When finished, you'll have nice deep throaty growl, better performance and NO CEL.

BTW- If you must run a Flowmaster, use their STRAIGHT THRU design mufflers.

I'm not sure how those sound, they're too new.

I love it. Thanks so much... Will the shop let me keep my converters?

No problem. They better give your old parts back, they are your property.

They didn't because they wanted to sell them themselves. You need to discuss this with the shop before you have them do the work, their labor rate may have the recycle value of the cats factored in.

No, technically they're yours, you paid or are paying for them. They have absolutely no say in the matter.

Technically you gave them up and bought their beer for the week.

Not sure who's worse, the ones who sawzall them off while your sleeping or the ones who steal them right in front of you, while your awake.

I know what your saying but in MA you aren't allowed to change cat quantities... near California emissions here. Hi flows are illegal too

In other words, they violated the law and took your old cats in exchange for doing what they were not supposed to do.

Which is why, if anyone can get someone to actually change out catalytic converters, especially with replacing the infamous 4 for 2, folks are happy, and stay quiet about where it gets done. Unless you remove two yourself, and go in with two, they will do the work 'as is' since you came in with 2, after a lot of bickering. I was going to do the same with my 2004, however it turned out that the front cats were plenty loud enough for me.
