I think the "heading into the muffler" pipe is 3". Then the other side should have twin 2.25 or 2.5" pipe leads. But I don't have a 5.0, so I could be wrong, that's just what I recall.

Notched, I don't even know what that is referring to

Meh...not a fan of chambered mufflers of any type, but if it sounds good to you, go fer it! It IS possibly, however, that you could lose a bit of torque down low with a chambered muffler. Just

And as thelariat said, the shop will certainly try to sell you their "brand of choice".

I say remove it! But I think that comes down to how loud you want it. The louder the better with me

Leave it. let the muffler break in then decide if you want it louder.

^ that then! I have a SIDO Offroad Roush (which is a Borla muffler) kit on my truck and it's loud, but you can keep it almost dead silent if you drive a certain way, watching the RPM. You can always be considerate when in the neighborhood late at night and early in the morning

My truck is an '06 5.4 and I didn't have a resonator, just one huge muffler.

This is completely based off of one truck and could be entirely false: I work at a car dealership and A guy brought his 5.0 in for an appraisal and it was very loud. I mean LOUD. I climbed under it, and all he had was one small muffler, otherwise the exhaust was stock. He had the muffler and resonator taken out and then the small muffler added in. So maybe the new trucks are much more "free-flowing" and they are automatically louder than a 5.4 with the same exhaust set up? Not sure. But I've definitely never seen a 5.4 that was louder, even straight piped. Not without long tubes

I had the borla pro xs 3" in dual 2.5" out installed on my truck this morning. 2012 5.0. I left the resonator and it sounds really good. nice deep mellow tone. growls really good when you get on it.

Post a vidya, bamablue! Sounds like a sweet setup. I'm considering switching to something very similar.
