Question Balance Tube

I have a 98 XLT super cab 4.6l. with true dual exhaust, the y-pipe was cut out after the cat's and 2 1/2 pipe run to twin muff's. I have heard that i nee a balance tube between the 2 pipe's. Should it be 2 1/2 inch or can it be smaller?? I love the sound of my truck, Will this tube change the sound?? I've also heard this tube may bring back some of my low end?? Thanks

Well let me give you my input on this, i posted the same reply and everyone said do it. I have JBA headers with true dual exhaust out the back and I just installed a x-pipe and all i noticed was that i lost some of that deep tone sound i loved so much, i really haven't had anytime to play with it and go out and run around a little bit to check it out, but coming home from the shop from having it put on, all i noticed was a loss of sound, i'm sure it equalizes out both banks and maybe it does add a little low end torque but i didn't notice it on the way home.
