Question Gibson Dual Sport Pictures anyone????

I have searched other posts and am unable to see what a Gibson Dual Sport exhaust looks like on an F150. I am still undecided between the dual split rear or the dual sport. I like the looks of the split rear, but it will cost $70 (w/ tips) and maybe difficult to install on my truck (have 265/70/17 spare from ORP ). I would love to see some pics. thanks, Matt

Fireman-

Thanks for the interest in helping me out with my delima. How do you like the dual sport?? I think it should sound like the nice deep rumble from the split rear becase it has the same muffler and pipe size. Was the install ez??

Anyone else out their that could help me out??

Thumbs up Gibson Dual Sport self-install

Did a self-install of the Gibson Dual Sport cat-back and it took
me 2hrs 45 min. I think it can be done in an hour if you really
know what you are doing and have a helper. I took a couple
of breaks and had some guys in the shop get curious and
come over and start talking to me so that is why I think it took longer.

I did not get paper instructions with my kit!! I dont know if they
accidently forget them or not?

The way I began, (and it helps alot), was to set it up first on
the ground and see how everything went together.

I utilized a lift at the auto craft shop on the Army post here
in Sierra Vista. (IMO without it, it would be a lot more difficult)

The hardest part was getting the old system off. You have to be
careful not to damage the hanger bushings as they are used with
the new system.

I used a mini grinder to cut the pipe just a few inches ahead of
the garbage can sized stock muffler. Had to use a hack saw for the
very top due to the lack of clearance between the pipe and
the body.
Once the old pipes were off, the Gibson system pretty much just bolted right up.
I took some extra time lining up everthing and making it level.

I could have used an extra hand (if you got a buddy, have him help),
but I managed okay by myself.

All in all it was a pretty simple affair. I am not a big time motorhead either.
I have only basic knowledge of tools and
my only advantage would be that I used to work as a welder's
helper and can handle a grinder safely. (don't forget eye protection)!!

The sound is pretty nice and mellow. This is definitely NOT a loud
performance muffler. It is certainly louder than the stock system
and the truck really looks nice with the two stainless steel slash
tips exiting right behind the passenger rear tire.

I am very happy with the Gibson Dual Sport and the ease of installation.
I was quoted $ 191.00 for the kit install at Midas Monkey House and
another local shop offered to put it on for $100.00.
I put it on myself and only paid $15.00 for the use of the lift.

Goodness! I saved myself some dinero for another mod!
oh the possiblities.....

Thanks...

Great post, thanks for the info. I did a dynomax cat back split rear on my 84 Camaro. I started with out a lift, was able to get the old system off, but there was no way I could get the new system over the axle (even with the shocks removed and the rear end jacked up off the ground). I ended up having to use a pit to put the new one on. I think with the added height of the truck that I will try and put the new Gibson (when I get it) on in my garage.

Any pics of your install??? Is the sound at idle nice and deep?? Hope it sounds good leaving a stop light!!

Matt,

Actually I had to twist the old stock system a bit to get it
off the axle as well. Again, I did this by myself and it was
a bit of a hassle. I can't imagine doing lying on my back but
then again the ORP does give you added room to work with...

I don't know... probably be okay since you have the experience
to boot.

Idle is a low rumble. This really is quieter than I expected, but
then again I did not want a head turner. I just wanted to
improve gas mileage and get a few more HP.

Oh yes, from a dead stop it will roar nicely but is not obnoxious.

Sorry I don't have any pic's yet. They will be coming in a week
or so though.

Best of luck to you.

The install wasn't all that easy for the SuperCrew. The shock mount on the passenger side goes in front of the axle. There is very little clearance between the pipe and the shock. I had to go to the muffler shop to have the system welded up to gove it more clearance since the clamp was on the shock. I was VERY displeased to start off with. I made the cut of the stock stainless system in the wrong place. The instructions were wrong. I paid extra for an entirely stainless system and ended up having non-stainless patches in it. The exhaust is quieter than I would have hoped for. The tips are impossible to keep shiny since everything from the road kicks up to the tips. I wish I had gone back to a FlowMaster system like I had on my 97.

Fireman,

Your pipes look to be more at a 90 degree angle coming out?
Is that right or is it just the angle of the photos?
Mine come out more at a 45 degree angle.
Not sure what I like better?
Sorry I dont have mine pics up yet.

I know what you mean about keeping the tips clean.
Mudflaps would help I suppose....if you are a mudflap type
of guy??

Not sure yet myself if i want them or not?
