gibson supertruck too loud!! help!!

hey guys,

i got a gibson super truck installed on my truck not too long ago. i really like almost everything about it. the looks, hp and tourque gain, and it seems to make my engine seem smoother. i even like the sound on the outside. but inside there is a droning sound. like a vibrations that is felt in the ear drums. i am sure you guys know what i am talking about. i would like to get some kind of sound deadening material installed in my cab. it is a single cab for your info. any suggestions you have would be very helpfull. thanks!!

Gibson super truck

Could someone tell me what the gibson exhaust sounds like on the 4.2? Does it sound like the sick s-10's with dual exhaust?

There was someone over at the world (don't remember who in particular but you could do a search on it) that removed their whole interior and covered the inside with adhesive backed sound deadening material. Long story short, it did'nt make that much of a difference for all the work.

You could partially cover the vents behind the seat on the back wall of the cab that would make a small difference without too much effort or expense. Also, a couple of coats of undercoating would help to quiet the cab noise a little too.

Sorry I could'nt give you more to go with but my own truck is so quiet that cab resonance was never an issue.

Good luck and enjoy that beatiful Long Beach weather

Unhappy

I don't think you're gonna find much of anything that'll work the way you want it to. LE PEW's recommendations sound like the best options at this point. (other then a new system)

A resonator is the only other thing I can think of to quiet it down. But I don't think there will be enough room to install one, unless you had a Super Cab, and then it'll still be tight!

thanks

thanks for the tips,

i solved my problem. i did a few of the things you suggested as well as put this sucker back:

when i put it back on it cut the resonance almost in half. but it still kept the mean rumble i want outside the cab. this is someone elses pic of the same part...but you get the idea.

Thumbs up

So the "resonating" was due to vibration? Very interesting.....

Glad it solved your problem. I was under the impression the resonating was from the tone of the Super Truck........

Wonder why my truck didn't have one of those. It's a 97 with the 5.4 and it don't rattle at all........

Vibration

LBC150 where did you install the counter balance weight? My 2001 F150 5.4 had one and was removed (I kept it) an I too have a vibration type problem just as you described. Mine is not too bad (single side swept gibson) but I notice it. I don't know where the counter balance was OEM installed. Was your relocating it via trial and error or did you put it near OEM placement?

hey

boaz,

i placed it in the OEM placement. i just put her in the exact same place. (which happens to be right where the two pipes meet)

mitch,

i do not know why yours did not come with one. that sounds odd to me. i would let my dealer know if i was you. just my .02 though.

good luck to both of you.

Talking

Thanks LBC150, but I got my rig used and not from a Ford dealer. My exhaust dosen't vibrate or make any noise, other then the rumble of the exhaust itself. So I guess I just got lucky or something changed after 97?

Yup, my 97(4.6) does'nt have one either Mitch. BTW, 97 exhaust is different from all others but mostly just in the placement of the hangars.

LBC150, are you going to try adding another vibration damper to further reduce the resonance?
