Y-X-pipe hybrid? / Y-pipe mod?

First: I did a search, but I can't exactly find what the "y-pipe mod" is. Does is it the fabrication of a centered Y (in place of the offset Y)? or ______?

Second: Just a theoretical question for you all. Has anyone considered the fabrication of an X pipe which crossed back into a Y-pipe that goes to a single in & out muffler?

I figure than a Y pipe is similar to an H-pipe, so why not X it if possible?

The attached picture is pretty bad, but it gets my point across.

I guess you could do it but why? If you have a Y, it serves the same purpose as an X, bringing the pulses from each bank together. On a true dual system, an X lets each bank take advantage of the opposite side's exhaust piping.

Are you sure the fluid dynamic (and acoustical dynamic) properties of a Y-pipe and X-pipe are the same? (especially considering the unequal lenghths of the Y-pipe with respect to the 2 to 1 intersection)

-------------

So the Y pipe mod is essentially adding a mandrel bend to replace the crap bend of the stock?

Max- I really didn't understand your original description.

I can't find the tons of posts or pictures that describe it very well (hence the first line of my original post)

Here's the infamous jagged hole inside the factory Y-pipe. Some are far worse than others.

This is how it shapes up after the mod . I'm sure you can understand how the factory Y-pipe restricts the driver's side of the "Y" from flowing freely into the passenger's side.

Photos are " ala Jackal " I found them by using the search function.

Good luck Corpsie.

I DID search and the 20 or so threads I checked, the only thing valid was that the Y-pipe mod was mentioned, no pics, not links.

Thanks for the assistance everyone.

-----------

So any more guesses about my whack y-x-pipe thingy?
